Zambia 2025

Spende geschützt
Hi my name is Niamh Landale,
I am 17 years old and I am extremely privileged to have this opportunity to go to Kabwe, Zambia in Febuary 2025. Along with 20 other students from my school, The King’s Hospital, I am lucky enough to be going to Zambia as apart of my Gold Gaisce President’s Award. While in Zambia we will work at Ranchhod Hospice,The local preschool,K’ngombe school and Sables Nua School. During our time at the schools and hospice We will be providing the children with school supplies, food and clothing.

In 2002 The Kings Hospital gaisce participants began what would be a long-term developing project in Zambia. A former member of staff Nurse Mary Chidgey was our link with the Buyantanshi open community school. The charity offered free education to countable children in Makalulu, a town, on the edge of Kabwe. The Kings Hospital school raised enough money to double the size of the school, sink a well and build drop toilets. Mary soon estabilished Ranchhod Hospice, This hospice provides nourishment, medical care and support. She also set up a preschool on the grounds. Here the children who are too young to attend the BOCCS schools, could begin their education. The school feeding programme is a significant part of this project. We have supported their projects for many years and went on to build a porpose-build preschool for children in Chilillilila, on the edge of Makalulu. This preschool was for vulnerable children , with aids testing and counselling rooms for the community. This was also the base for our community outreach programme.

As well as the projects previousley mentioned. We also supported Busy Bees grandmothers’ group, based at the hospice. These grandmothers raised their AIDS-orphaned grandchildren. In different initiatives KH funded Singer sewing machines; purchased piglets and a sausage making machine, beads to make Zulu bead items, a peanut butter making machine, all to make products to sell at market. All profits are used to buy food for their families.

Running parallel to these initiatives is another project, Sables, which was established to take homeless children off the streets and give them a vocational education. Zamda, Ireland, has taken over the running of this project.

Everything we do for the community in Kabwe is life changing to everyone living there.

I would like to thank you so very much for taking the time out of your day to read this and would really appreciate any bit of support you can give. This is an oppertunity of a lifetime, i am greatly looking forward to this project as it will change many lives.
