Life has a way of surprising us when we least expect it and sometimes these moments challenge and stretch us in ways we could never imagine. Our family is currently facing one of those moments, as we’re navigating the heartbreaking news of our mom’s breast cancer diagnosis.

My name is Amanda, and I’m reaching out on behalf of my incredible mom, Lori. She’s more than just a wife, mom, sister, aunt, and grandmother—she’s the heart of our family. Just days before her annual mammogram, she found a lump, and in an instant, our world was turned upside down. In what felt like the blink of an eye, our conversations shifted from swim lessons and soccer practice to PET scans and chemotherapy.

For nearly 30 years, my mom has dedicated her life to caring for others as a teacher at Bright Horizons, nurturing children by day and her family by night. She has always been the one to give—putting everyone’s needs before her own. But now, she’s the one who needs our time, attention and care. Each doctor’s visit brings another test, another scan, and another reminder of how overwhelming this journey can be, both emotionally and financially. The mounting costs of saving her life weigh heavily on us.
