So I’m a hairdresser and I’m blessed to own my own salon, I randomly had a cancellation and a woman walked into my salon she looked put together but she was holding a blanket and carrying a back pack. She asked me how much would it be a full on make over, make up, hair, clothes, everything.. I looked at her thinking she was kidding and said I’m not sure.. I told her how about we just blow dry and style your hair, I could tell something was off but I didn’t want to assume anything. She said how much would it be. I kind of had a feeling she was homeless but again I didn’t want to assume. I asked her, do you live around here? she said “I’m homeless” so I told her, don’t worry about it just come on back. She asked to use the restroom first I said yes of corse! No problem... she went in she was in there for about 4 minutes came out, she sat in the bowl and I started washing her hair and asking her about why she was homeless and of corse she was not saying much and I said it’s “fine Its none of my business”, I sat her in my chair and started doing her hair and we talked about how hard it was for her to live on the street when people don’t want you, being pushed around from city to city not feeling safe getting your stuff stolen.. ect then after a while she closed her eyes and started to fall asleep and nod off.. I’m not sure I didn’t want to assume she was on drugs or if she was just really enjoying it but I felt really bad for her. Maybe she was just tired and I made her feel safe. Anyway I told her to come back tomorrow and I would go though my closet and see if I had anything she could use, I had some make up wipes tooth paste and mouth wash in my car brand new. I asked her to come back tomorrow and I would have more for her I asked her if she needed anything she said socks! I said ok! No problem, come back tomorrow I’ll have socks and clothes for you face wash ect.. We exchanged names and I gave her a hug and she left because I had another client waiting. I can’t imagine what it must be like to not have a home, to not feel safe, not know where I’m going to sleep at night, not having basic necessities or even socks.

I felt really inspired to help today, I want to start a program do this maybe once a month on a day with a team of stylists make up artists ect.. close the salon/ or travel to camps in Orange County  where women who are homeless that are looking for a job and want to get off the street can get their hair done. Looking for a job can be difficult when you don’t look presentable, it will also boost their self esteem and confidence. Hair product is expensive And I would love to send them home with make up and hygiene products, but funding can be expensive. Donations are welcome

I hope this project grows and I can start this. Please help @BeautyProjectofhope become a reality.
