Beautiful Dorothy Fund

Hey there friends + family, new and old, near and far! This is Josh and Jenna Chapman and we’ve organized this page for Beautiful Dorothy (our little Dottie) and family.

 

Turning two this November 2021, our X-tra wonderful niece has only grown stronger with each obstacle she’s faced. From her wild ride into the world, to surviving a major heart surgery and now her struggle vs. Acute Myeloid Leukemia, she has pushed through and thrived.

 

After finding out about her AML on October 6, her parents Doug and Kait Kraemer realized their life would look very different for a long while.

 

From Kait: “The treatment for pediatric AML is a very regimented process across the country, especially for children with Down Syndrome, and this is why we decided to stay here at Inova Fairfax rather than pursue other options at a different children's hospital (Johns Hopkins, CHOP, etc.). We are expecting to be here for about a month at a time for treatments, have a few days at home and then come back and repeat the process again for a total of 6 cycles, hopefully coming to a conclusion somewhere around the first week of April 2022.”

 

Since Dorothy will be living at the hospital for the majority of the fall/winter/spring, Kait has taken a leave of absence from her teaching job. Unfortunately, this is the case for many families who have to fight cancer together. Not only are they met with many physical hurdles, but financial ones. Many families can’t survive on one income. The Kraemer family is not alone in this.

 

We need to help. We need to help them now. We would like to help ease their financial burden so they can focus solely on Beautiful Dorothy while she fights perhaps the greatest battle of her life.

 

Please consider donating today. The monetary number we came up with covers Kait’s income loss for the time they will be in the hospital for Dottie’s treatments. It doesn’t cover any extra medical expenses that could incur if there were any changes in coverage, treatment or time spent in the hospital. This is what they know they NEED to get by on. If we could go above and beyond this number to help give them a bit of a buffer, that would be even better.
