Beating Cancer, Neuropathy and a Hurricane

THE HURRICANE

On September 10, 2017, Hurricane Irma significantly damaged the Florida home of Wayne & Kathy Dammert, my brother and sister-in-law. They were not able to return to their home for over a year. They had to move seven times. Insurance funds covered only part of the housing expense. They are in mediation with their insurance company because they did not receive adequate restoration funds. Today, their home is still not fully repaired.

FIRST BOUT WITH CANCER 

In June 2019, Wayne was diagnosed with colon cancer. Surgery was performed to remove the cancer and he began seven months of chemotherapy in August 2019.

NEUROPATHY

As a result of the chemotherapy, Wayne has been suffering from neuropathy in his hands and feet, a debilitating numbness and pain from nerve damage.

SECOND BOUT WITH CANCER

In June 2020, a CT scan indicated new cancer masses in his abdomen. He began new chemotherapy the first week of July 2020. His health share coverage contributed to some of the expenses for the surgery and treatments, but there are significant expenses outstanding and more to come with ongoing treatment. In addition, Kathy suffers from chronic asthma, which has resulted in trips to the emergency room and additional outstanding expenses.

WHY GoFundMe?

The past three years have created tremendous stress for Wayne & Kathy financially,  physically and emotionally.  Being able to get a handle on their medical bills will provide significant relief for both of them. Donated funds will be used to help pay for outstanding balances and upcoming expenses as soon as possible.
