Be Angel’s Angel: Help Angel recover from Covid

Donation protected
Angel Amras is a hard-working dedicated Uniondale High School Student-Athlete. On December 15, four months into his senior year he was taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with Covid 19. On Dec 19th, 2021, he went back to the emergency room because he had low oxygen in his system. Both Angel and his mother were hospitalized for covid during Christmas. On December 27th things began to take a turn for the worst when Angel was moved to the ICU where they were forced to intubate and connect Angel to an ECMO, a Mechanical lung.

On January 3, 2022, Angel’s left lung collapsed and the air went through his skin and his heart swelled up like a balloon. Everyday became worst than the next as Angel began to bleed unsustainably as Angel would bleed he would receive transfusions to help. On January 7th, 2022 the hospital staff decided it would be best if he received a tracheostomy, an opening surgically created through the neck into the trachea (windpipe) to allow direct access to the breathing tube. January 20th, 2022 was the first time his mother was allowed to see him in person, a day before the ECMO cannula slipped out of place and we almost lost Angel for the third time.  February 4th, 2022 was Angel's birthday, on this day we were told by doctors that this could be the day that he dies. Angel had other plans… On February 8th the doctors had to put another larger tube in his right lung because the one he had was not enough to remove the clots. To say the least, things were rough for a long time until March 1st, 2022 when the doctors began to eliminate the medication that kept Angel sedated. On March 7th Angel was out of the coma and able to interact with his family for the first time since December. March 14th, 2022 was the day Angel left the ICO for the respiratory care Unit where he is being monitored. Angel is now receiving visits from friends and family on his journey to recovery, But his battle is not over. Angel’s road to recovery has hit a bump in the road, his insurance is not willing to pay for the adequate help that Angel needs to get back to himself. Before this life-changing experience Angel was a 3 sports athlete with high aspirations of going to college. He was always set out to be the best example for his peers both on and off the field/mat. When he was not in school or practice he was hard at work trying to contribute to his family. Angel has fought this hard to get back to us, as a community we need to do everything we can to help him get back to the person he was before his battle with Covid 19. We are asking for your support in helping Angel get the resources he needs to have a full and speedy recovery. I hope to give him a chance to walk at his high school graduation, he has missed so much of his senior year already.
