Be the Voice of the Iranian Protesters

Mahsa (Jina) Amini was arrested and beaten by the morality police in Tehran and died in mid-September of severe injuries caused by the beating. Her death triggered an unprecedented wave of protests across Iran. Iranian people have been on the streets since mid-September, protesting and demanding their very fundamental human rights, which is a life with dignity.

The Iranian government has once again proved to the world its absolute lack of respect for human rights and civilians’ safety. Protests have crossed a threshold that the authoritarian government has repeatedly failed to repress. However, this does not mean the protesters have had the chance to voice their demands in a safe environment. The security forces have shot and arrested thousands of protesters. The whereabouts and conditions of many injured and arrested protesters are still unknown. The numbers are extremely alarming. Thousands are killed, innjured and arrested in less than three weeks.

Due to a severly restricted internet and highly militarized situation, access to information about the protesters who the security forces have targeted has become a challenging task. This situation means the voice of many might go unheard, and the grave human rights violations may go unseen unless human rights organizations can enhance their efforts to overcome the highly challenging situation they have encountered.

A few human rights organizations have managed to document and share the latest news of the Iranian protests. Hengaw is one of them. It has documented human rights violations and kept a record of the injured, killed, and arrested protesters despite all the difficulties its volunteers have faced. Hengaw has continuously released reports on the latest human rights violations. The international media outlets such as Reuters, CNN, and France24 have constantly relied on Hengaw’s reports for the past few weeks.

Due to a lack of sufficient funds, the work has been arduous for its staff, which is made up of only volunteers.

Your donations will support some crucial aspects of the work, as explained in the following few sentences. The organization's website and social media accounts are its primary mediums to share the news. The website needs constant maintenance and technical support due to high traffic and cyber attacks by Iranian security forces. Another area where Hengaw needs funds to continue its work is the volunteers who help with translations, editing and creating reports. And the last point to support is to spend some funds on creating visual content such as infographics and illustrations.
