Maggie's Dream

For over 30 years, Maggie has worked as a nanny and housekeeper for many families living and working in Nairobi. It has been her dream to buy her own property and build and furnish her own home. After many decades of saving and raising her own family as a single mother, she has finally been able to reach her goal of buying her own small property and building a lovely furnished home in her home village. Her plan has been to work for one more year so she can add the finishing touches to her home, and then retire. It has been no easy feat to come this far.

Last week, her home was robbed and stripped bare of everything that she has carefully acquired over the years. She is now faced with the prospect of having to start from scratch and refurnish her home once again.

In the Kenyan "Harambee" tradition ("all pull together"), we've set up a fundraising page. And because kindness--not cruelty--should prevail. And because everyone deserves a place to call their own, especially someone who has spent a lifetime cleaning, cooking and caring for other people's homes and their children.
