Help Bath City Farm stay open - #BCF25

Hello,

We’re Bath City Farm, a much-loved charity which has been supporting vulnerable people living in Bath for over 25 years. On the 20th March we sadly closed our gates and suspended all our project groups to help reduce the spread of Covid-19.

With the uncertainty created by the lockdown and the farm having to close, we now have a genuine concern for our future and whether we will reach our 26th year.

We need your help

Whilst we have adapted the way we operate, we cannot ignore that due to the loss of all our commercial income, our charity is now at risk.

In a normal year, sales from our cafe, events, bookings, school visits and corporate away days make up over a third of our total income. The rest is donated and fundraised thanks to our community, business partners and supporters.

It costs £850 a day to keep the farm going, and as a charity we receive no public funding. This means we now need to raise £50,000 by October.

Behind the closed gates we are still busy supporting our community. We stream weekly live animal feeds to connect people with nature and manage an emergency response Meals on Wheels program to support those in need. As of May 21st 2020 we have delivered over 1000 meals.

Before the Coronavirus crisis we regularly saw the daily challenges the people we support are living with. It is likely these challenges have only deepened. Poverty, adversity and mental health is very much here in Bath as anywhere else in the UK. In fact, our neighbourhood is within the 20% most deprived areas in England and has the highest proportion of children living in poverty in the county.

Please give today and make sure we can still be here for the people and families facing adversity. Your support is urgently needed.

Thank you and take care,
Helen Fisher
Farm Manager

Examples of our targeted projects:

Branching Out - a skills and wellbeing project for young adults struggling in mainstream education, providing the opportunity to learn about animal care & horticulture in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Feathered Friends - a project for people with dementia, bringing together elderly residents of the community experiencing isolation to enjoy tea & cake and have a cuddle with our friendly chickens.

Family Feasts - A weekly session for families in the local area to find support, while cooking healthy meals together and taking part in fun farm activities.

Training at the Trough - a catering skills project for adults with additional needs, where they learn to prepare high quality dishes and gain skills in customer service through supported placements in our little cafe, The Trough.

Get Growing Mental Health Programme - Our largest project, working with adults with enduring mental health issues. This project runs two days a week, providing structure, socialising and a safe environment for people to receive the therapeutic benefits of caring for animals and gardening.
