Kilimanjaro Climb for Brookfields School

On 12th September this year, I will begin the biggest challenge of my life so far in climbing Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. Standing at 19,341 feet above sea level, it will take 6 days to reach the summit.
Having already paid for the trip myself, I want to use this challenge as a reason to raise funds for a special school which has helped and continues to help my nephew and his peers immensely. That place is Brookfields School.
Brookfields School is a community special school with pupils aged 2-11 years. It provides specialist provision for pupils with Autism Spectrum Conditions, Severe Learning Difficulties and Complex Needs. Currently there are 68 pupils on roll (71 from September 2014). Brookfields School is situated in Widnes with the majority of pupils attending the school from Widnes and Runcorn and some children travelling from neighbouring authorities. The school was graded Outstanding in March 2013 and is also accredited by the National Autistic Society. The pupils at the school undertake a curriculum following the National Curriculum but also enjoy weekly educational visits using the 2 school minibuses, lots of learning outside of the classroom in the well developed school grounds and swimming in the schools own pool. The school works closely with a wide number of professionals and other agencies to provide a highly specialist educational provision for all of its pupils.
The funds raised by the Kilimanjaro climb are to purchase for the school outdoor gym equipment for use by the children. This will support our children's physical development and also be used as part of their sensory and occupational therapy input. As part of our new curriculum, pupils will be undertaking daily physical exercise in which this outdoor gym equipment will provide a vital resource for these activities.
