What are we fighting for?
Nour Cash & Carry has been the heart of Brixton Market for over 20 years. But Nour is due to be evicted, amid a pandemic, without a credible reason or replacement location. Thousands of people rely on this community shop for their affordable and heritage groceries. Customers say it for themselves: where else will they go?

Who are we fighting against?
Taylor McWilliams is the Texan multimillionaire/socialite/landlord forcing an eviction on Nour. His company bought Brixton Market for £37 million in 2018. Taylor has a vision of what Brixton should look like - but we don't think he appreciates what makes Brixton great. Closing shops like Nour is cultural erasure.
Taylor also moonlights as a DJ (Instagram @housekeepingldn). He dabbles in ‘Jamaican’ music but at the same time he has served an eviction notice to a shop that the Caribbean community here rely upon. We cannot let him change our home beyond repair.
How your money will help to Save Nour
Taylor McWilliams is very sensitive about his image. Our main aim is to commission a local Black artist to paint a public mural that immortalises the harm Taylor is inflicting on our community and calls him out - so that if he follows through with this eviction, he will never be able to set foot in Brixton again.
Taylor’s efforts to shut down a shop that many people rely on for their heritage foods has made us feel unwelcome in our own home. We want him to understand that his callous gentrification is not welcome in Brixton.

£10 equips us with posters and stickers to call Taylor out and bruise his ego.
£50 amplifies marginalised voices by commissioning and supporting the people most impacted by Brixton’s gentrification to write and create art about what is happening to their community.

Whatever funds we don’t spend on the campaign to Save Nour will go to the Battle for Brixton fund: a grassroots community pot to support other campaigns for the rights of Black communities, working-class communities, and communities of colour. Because gentrification is an ongoing tragedy and we must work together to stop it.
