Everest Base Camp 16 Day - Open Challenge (02-17 November 2019)
SO, most people celebrating their 60th & 40th year on this fabulous planet consider what hot/exotic places they could go to relax and enjoy. Maldives, Bali, /Turkey ... yep have thought of them all. So what are we ACTUALLY going to do?? Charity trek to Base Camp Everest !!!
Yep! Already signed up!! Yep, we have finally lost the plot!! Hahaha!!
Maria has promised me that I am not going to die!! I have promised Maria that we will raise at least £6k however I am hoping for £10k.
I (Linda) are doing it in memory of my Dad, as an open Challenge. My dad, Malcolm Roshier, died of Asbestos Lung Cancer. He was a true legend right through to the very end, an inspiration to all. Never once complaining nor letting it stop him doing ANYTHING!! Including getting on a plane to Spain, which the doctors warned him against. Throughout, he and my mum were supported through the minefield by a little known charity in the South Coast called HASAG. Both the girls who started this, their father also died of Asbestos Lung Cancer.
My dad would say, good on you Nipper! The only thing to stop you is you!! Love you Dad xx
I (Maria) would like to do it in memory of my auntie Krysia who grew up during some very hard times in Poland, she was one of nine children who was adopted and raised by her Aunt. Times were hard, however she was loving and holds special memories for me. She died of breast cancer in her late 30's, leaving behind 3 young children - 4, 3 and 1 years I was just 8 years old. I remember a day when she seemed to die however came back for just a short time, just one more day! Time to say one last goodbye to the little ones. A good person taken far too soon. She will be my strength.
My (Maria) friend Joanna was such a loving and community person, that was happy to give her own time to and for others. That they had somewhere to go and look towards. She was always happy and fun, all the time she had cancer in her womb which spread to her whole body. She sadly left us at the young age of 33, leaving behind 2 young children. She would laugh at the fact I am going to trek Base Camp Everest however she would be the first to support me, making me strong when I waiver. She will be with me in spirit giving me both strength and humour.
Please donate as much as you can afford to, no sum is too little and no sum is too high. HASAG and Marie Curie Cancer have already said how grateful they are. For HASAG, this is the first time anyone has ever done this sort of fundraising for them.
Dad, Krysia and Joanna are our inspiration, you will be our motivation!
