His first passion was his football career.
He played for Doncaster Rovers, York City, Bradford City, Halifax Town, Crewe Alexandra, Notts County and Scarborough.

Barry completed his National Service. He enjoyed it very much possibly because he spent time touring with the Army football team which included some of the top players of the day including Ron Yeates, John White and Alex Young.

He also drove John Profumo the War Minister and his wife the actress Valerie Hobson at the wedding of the Duke of Kent and Catherine Worsley at York Minster. The Army drivers spent the duration of the service in the Hole in the Wall pub which certainly would not happen today!

He continued to work within the professional football circuit for Manchester United Leeds United and Sunderland.

He worked within the Family haulage business and was a director of Tait Transport with his late brother, Peter Tait and also ran Shire Haulage until the 1980s

Barry was born and raised in York he had a love of sport and enjoyed Golf.

He was a member of Fulford Golf Club where he played in the Pro/Am Benson and Hedges competition with his brother Peter. They also played at Pike Hills

His greatest Passion was football-
He set up Bishopthorpe White Rose Junior football club with his daughter Jacque and husband Gary, In memory of Bert his dad who ran White Rose in the 50's in the village of Bishopthorpe. As there was no facilitIes in Bishopthorpe for his grandchildren George and Charlie to play and no pitches.
Barry and Ricky Sbragia  took the first training session in 1999 at Bishopthorpe junior school. Barry and Ricky had always been great friends  following their work with the York City Youth team and Barry has always kept a keen interest in the clubs progress, throughout his life

The club has now managed to secure new pitches and a club house on Sim Balk Lane, with the help and tremendous work, through fundraising , of the many Parents in Bishopthorpe. Barry was extremely proud of how far it had come from 18 players in 1999, to now having 500 members. Having  now managed to join the Junior Football and the  senior team now all under one club . Age 4- open age.

As a family, still fully involved 21 years later Gary, still  in the role of Chairman and Jacq feels very passionate and protective about the club as born in the village and has sponsored the girls kits and helps in the back ground, It will keep the memory of her dad and granddad alive.

Barry was very sociable and loved to go on holiday and lived life to the full with his all year tan and his smile will always be remembered though his love of football.
RIP dad will miss you x
.
He loved his family very much .

Barry leaves a wife Sonja,
A Son, John and Daughter Jacque to his first wife Doreen.
He was a much loved father-in law to Gary and Karen
Also four  grandchildren, Carl, Craig George and Charlie and four  Great Grandchildren
and Cousins and Nieces. A good Friend to many.
