Barbara Tatham Medical Scholarship

EM Global is at it again, continuously inspired by the spirit and legacy of Dr Barbara Tatham. We are now sponsoring Ms Angella Mbise, a bright, dedicated and dynamic young woman who we believe has a future as a compassionate and strong leader in the medical field in Tanzania.

After her training in Kenya, Angella plans to return to her beloved Tanzania to serve her people and build up the field of pediatric emergency medicine in the country. Currently, there are no trained peds EM physicians in Tanzania, a country of 59 million people. With your contribution, you are part of safeguarding the right of every child to high-quality EM care. From 2018-2021, we sponsored Dr. Emmanuel Kisanga to obtain an emergency medicine residency. He is now serving in the Northern Kilimanjaro region as an EM physician and as a leader in EM. We are building institutional partnerships to support the development of a second ER residency program in the country. Capacity building is the way to go. We see the impact.

When you invest in supporting a local doctor to obtain this training, you are investing in the mind, heart, and hands of someone who will make a huge positive difference and treat thousands of patients in their career.

To build up emergency care where it is needed most, we need local champions who become the leaders of EM development where they live.

Angella is the second recipient of the Dr. Barbara Tatham Medicine Scholarship. EM Global previously sponsored Angella to complete her grade 12 diploma in Ontario, Canada. Now, she returns to East Africa to start her medical studies in year 1. We at EM Global will be cheering her on in every way and ask you to join us in supporting her.
