Balmer North & Memorial Donations

Donation protected
April 3rd, 2017 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Balmer North mine explosion. Fifteen men lost their lives, resulting in an incredible impact on many communities in our area (Michel, Natal, Sparwood, Fernie, and the Crowsnest Pass). This tragedy left families without sons, brothers, fathers, uncles and forever changed our small communities.

The ‘Balmer North Committee’ wants to honour these men, and all others that have lost their lives working at any of the Elk Valley coal miners. Sculptor, Nathan Scott, has been commissioned to create a life-sized bronze coal miner to commemorate their sacrifice.

In order to ensure the success of this very important fundraiser, we are seeking contributions to help offset the cost associated with the monument, memorial wall, ground works, and the event itself.

The District of Sparwood has budgeted $50,000 in both the 2016 and 2017 fiscal budget for the project. Generous donors like you are the key to ensuring the remaining funds can be acquired. We hope that we can count on your support to help bring this project to fruition. Donations of $30 or greater will be generate a tax receipt for income tax purposes.

You can donate directly at the District of Sparwood office, mailed to The District of Sparwood (Box 520, Sparwood, BC, V0B2G0), or online here on gofundme. We thank you for your time and consideration.
