The story of Olivia & Peyton Gill
My brother and his partner found out in September that they were expecting twin girls in April, unexpectedly the twins were born by emergency c-section on December 17th. Olivia was born at 580 grams and Peyton was born at a tiny 390 grams, instantly they were taken to the neonatal unit where the staff done everything they could for the girls.
Unfortunately just 3 short days later on December 20th we lost Olivia- she had a big bleed to the brain and her lungs were collapsing and there really was nothing more the nurses could do for her, so the painful decision was made to switch her machine off and she passed peacefully that evening in the arms of her mummy & daddy
The family were heartbroken, but we still had to fight for hope for our other little miracle Peyton, her chances of survival were little to none, she was the smallest baby to be born alive in the UK, but her mum, dad and the rest of the family put every bit of faith and hope into her fight. As expected there were up and down days, days where we thought we was going to lose her but Peyton put up the biggest fight and when the going got tough she fought that little bit harder and came out stronger defying all the odds shocking every single one of us and the nurses!
Peyton was finally able to get cuddles from mummy after 6 long weeks which she loved and got her breathing tube out after 9 weeks and was breathing for herself, Peyton was doing amazing and everyone was so proud of her building a bond and connection with her, she would love her stories read and songs sung and to be centre of attention- she had developed her own little attitude and was already a little diva who loved to cause a bit of trouble (mostly pulling out all her tubes!) she was so so loved and everyone looked forward to finally bringing her home and making her part of the family (she was to be so spoiled), but suddenly on the 1st of March Peyton’s fight was sadly over with no warning, she had gained her angel wings, 11 long weeks of needles, tubes, fighting and battling and she was gone, free of pain and suffering and joined her twin sister
Mummy & Daddy had lost not just one, but both of their little baby girls and no one can imagine the pain they are going through, the neonatal staff were just as shocked and hurt as the family and we would love to raise some money towards the charity to show our thanks and appreciation to the staff and help other babies / families in the same position as us, so if this story is something close to your heart any donation would be much appreciated. Peyton and Olivia were true warriors, but just too perfect and beautiful for this world
