Baby Samuel Sayles Miracle
Spende geschützt
In early 2016 Robert and Tracey Sayles were given the miraculous news that Tracey was pregnant with their fourth baby. During the 20 week ultrasound doctors identified abnormalities and prepared the family for the worst. Shortly after, doctors diagnosed the baby with Hypo-Plastic Left Heart Syndrome. This is a rare congenital heart defect, in which the left side of the heart is severely underdeveloped. This condition requires a series of very high risk open heart surgeries spanning over childhood and adolescence to gradually reconstruct the heart.
October 4th, 2016- Samuel William Sayles, was born. Within minutes after his first breath, Samuel got airlifted to Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, Neonatal Unit, while Tracey recovered in the Hospital on the other side of LA. Separated.
At 2 days old Samuel's journey was just about to begin…
After conducting a number of test and monitoring Samuel’s vitals; Doctors proceeded with Samuel's first open heart surgery. This began the reconstructive process on his little heart. However due to his condition and further complications, Samuel was subjected to 2 additional open heart surgeries to stabilize, barely having time to recover from the previous surgeries.
After almost four long months in intensive care, multiple follow up surgeries, causing damage to Samuel's diaphragm and paralyzing his vocal cords, inserting a G-Tube for around the clock feedings and medications. Samuel was able to go home to join his family for the first time, to heal, gain strength and prepare his tiny body for Stage 2 in his heart operations, anticipated for March/April. During Samuel's time at home Tracey and Robert provided around the clock care. Prior to discharge the Hospital assessed Samuel's care needs to be at a level requiring a trained medical nurse for in-home-care, but insurance would not cover. In his family home he thrived, his oxygen levels and heart rates continued to improve, while his little personality blossomed bonding with his big brother and sisters. Unfortunately, because of his very vulnerable immune system, Samuel had to be hospitalized twice for viruses and infection.
In March, Samuel was admitted to the intensive care unit and has remained there since. His condition is focused on keeping him stable but is listed as critical. He is heavily sedated, at times requiring medically induced paralysis or is physically restrained to the bed so as not to hurt himself pulling out IVs. He is intubated with his oxygen levels going into de-stat multiple times a week and experiencing delirium from the psych meds. Doctors have him on massive doses of antibiotics to fight viral infections and a bacterial clot discovered in his heart. Every treatment is being used to avoid an extremely high risk surgery to remove the bacteria cluster from his heart before it can break off into his bloodstream to spread. Concerns have now been raised for his liver function as it is swollen and inflamed as a result of all the medications.
Robert and Tracey continue to proclaim "It Is Well" and remain steadfast in the knowledge that the Lord is Faithful and has Samuel in Hand. We continue to pray and anticipate Samuel's continued progress and healing but, also want to support the family in the mounting burden of costs associated with Samuel's medical care and treatments. Below is a brief summary of the costs the family are left out of pocket after insurance coverage, these costs will continue to build as Samuel's treatment evolves and further surgeries take place.
$750 per hospital admittance
$750 per month medication
$400 per month specialty milk formula
$200 per month hospital parking fees
$100-200 per month in-home medical equipment hire i.e.: ventilator, heart monitor etc.
$100-200 per month in-home medical supplies
i.e.: replacement feeding tubes, replacement oxygen tubes, swabs, antiseptic wipes, syringes, oxygen tanks etc.
$10,000 the currently outstanding hospital bill
As a single income family Tracey is a full time mother to 8 year old Rachael, 6 year old Selah and 3 year old Isaac. Tracey continues to undertake medical training to resume the role of full time caretaker for when Samuel is discharged. Robert continues to work full time in ministry and takes any night work available to subsidize the family income. They take turns throughout the week sleeping by Samuel’s bedside at the hospital to be available to comfort him through any procedures or episodes.
Friends and family have been following Samuel's journey sending their love and standing in prayer. This 'Go Fund Me' account has been established in response to all those who have reached out to see what practical support they can offer the family. Any donation you can make would be a blessing to Robert and Tracey.
