Baby Luka and the Nieves Family

Shaye and Jose’s baby, Luka, was born on August 23 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Shortly after he was born, he experienced complications and was moved to the NICU where the doctors found Hirshsprung’s disease after a biopsy of his colon. Tuesday, September 5, Luka will be undergoing another colon surgery to investigate the severity of the Hirschprung’s disease and to have a colostomy bag placed. This will be a temporary solution as he will likely be facing another surgery in 3-6 months when he is older and stronger. Shaye and Jose are spending many hours in the NICU away from home, driving multiple times a day to the hospital 30 minutes away, and will be missing more work than originally planned. Due to this diagnosis, Luka will have doctor appointments and other medical expenses in the next six months to a year, including his upcoming surgeries. We wanted to create this fundraiser for family and friends who wish to show love and support to the Nieves family during this time. Due to their location in Puerto Rico, I will be sending Shaye any funds raised for medical expenses, gas, and food.
