Spende geschützt
Our 5th baby, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Simieanne was born June 25 and we were over the moon! I wasn’t even struggling with baby blues like I expected.
June 30 she had a weird day of not really nursing and by night she had a fever over 100. We took her in to Cook where one of the things they did was check her bilirubin levels because she was jaundiced. They were over 25, and the only place that could treat a number that high is Children's St Mary’s in Duluth, 2 hours from home.
They ended up taking her there by helicopter at 4 something am July 1st.
They started her in the blue lights for the flight and also IV fluids to help flush it out.
We headed down to Duluth and did a lot of waiting. They got her actual bili number - 35?!? - which is very high. So they decided that she needed an exchange transfusion. They did stop that half way thru because of trouble keeping the arterial line (I think that’s what they said. It’s fuzzy sometimes).
They did that and the number came down to 25 I think. (Currently waiting for an updated number as of 7:30 pm July 1)
They are also looking into if there’s a genetic condition that is causing this. I think we are supposed to know the answer to that in roughly a week. It would mean life long phototherapy at home. We are of course hoping that is not the case.
As of right now - July 1, 7:30 pm, they are saying it will be several days to a week of a stay in the blue lights, hoping the numbers continue the trend downwards, and not going back up.
Praying there’s no genetic condition. Praying the numbers keep dropping. Praying my breastmilk supply will keep going while I do a lot of pumping.
But just our whole family. The kids were already emotional from anxiety this morning. And their continued separation from me at times when I’ll be with Lizzie, and for Lizzie when I’m with them. (They cannot visit).
We are needing financial support for the travel costs and meals while we are bouncing back and forth. We also might need to figure out a child care situation with someone at times. Not even sure yet what it all looks like. One day at a time.
Thank you for your prayers, love, and support. We can’t get thru this without our village!
Here’s her before transport from Cook (my tear not hers).
