BABY JOSIAH MICHAEL

“… and a little child will lead them.”

In June of 2020, baby Josiah was born into our community. Following an uneventful pregnancy and during a normal delivery, he inhaled fluids which has resulted in near fatal, continuous issues. He has endured several surgeries, coded numerous times and required a tracheotomy, which we are hopeful will be removed as he matures and heals. He has just this month recovered from pneumonia.

This, not unusual, could have happened to any one of our children.
Josiah Michael, is the son of Steven and Danielle. Big brother Kingston (’12) is a member of our close knit hockey family, and once in, always family. Kingston has waited a long while for a sibling to play hockey with.

We’ve known those long, sleepless nights with newborns, and also knowing how fast the months go by. This family endures long sleepless nights with worry, and the months are endless. Waking up and walking past his empty nursery, back to the NICU to learn how their baby’s night went. Did he code? How soon was he resuscitated? What is the plan for today? When will our baby come home? Does he need to transfer to a different specialized hospital?

2020 has dealt us all tremendous blows – our children are struggling with virtual learning, sports with mask requirements, flu season adding to Covid-19, a Presidential Election, social injustices, and financial mayhem with businesses closing. We wipe tears, find homework links, became teachers, sanitize our surroundings, wear masks to buy groceries, tie skates and rush to practices.

It is NUTS, but we’ve also done so without the extra issues of a NICU and social workers and physicians, surgeons, and pediatric pulmonologists. This little warrior is in a battle for his life and fights to breath. Every minute.

In a year of turmoil at every turn, we ALL need to finish 2020 with signs of hope and healing. It is no coincidence, the child’s name “Josiah” means “God supports, heals”. Of this, the family stands rooted in faith – God supports and heals.

Need I say, having a child in the NICU (and, all 10 pounds of adorable him!) comes at no small cost and is the reason for this Go Fund Me. Steven and Danielle are dealing with of the issues we all are, while incurring some major financial expenses we can only hope to never fathom. Once the baby is stable enough to come home, he will require home nursing care. Please consider a contribution to this fund, where every dollar collected will be used for the care of this family; for daily meals on the go, medical bills, medications and forthcoming home nursing and now single income.

If you are a member of a church group and are seeking a family to include in your Thanksgiving or Christmas giving, please consider the prayers and financial needs of this child.

If your organization permits fund raising, and you’d like to include Josiah, many thanks!

Hockey teams, perhaps a “Goal-a-thon” on a Saturday? I am happy to explain!

And, to all, If you feel compelled to share this link, thank you so much!

And, most importantly, please include Josiah in your prayers. This family is standing on faith and reaching out to us to join in prayer for the restoration of health for their infant child. While thinking on a verse to pray on, I came to Isaiah 11:6.

“The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.”

This is a powerful vision of the peaceable Kingdom that will fully come at the return of Christ. In this Kingdom, even a child, who could play with the serpent in safety (Isa 11:8) will be able to lead these mighty animals.

Support and healing and peace.
There is such hope.
