Baby Harland's Helpers

Donation protected

In January 2018 Ashley’s water broke at 18 weeks pregnant. She and her husband Michael knew that the son they were expecting couldn’t make it outside of the womb this early, and they just prayed for a miracle. The doctors gave Harland a 20% chance of survival after her water broke. A baby needs amniotic fluid for lung development.

Ashley went on bedrest for 5 weeks at home then spent another 5 weeks in the hospital on bed rest, until she delivered her baby boy, Harland McCurry at 28 weeks and 4 days on March 26, 2018. Harland was 1lb 11oz and 13 3/4 inches. Harland spend 110 days at Magee Women’s Hospital then was transferred to Children’s Hospital for a trach and g tube evaluation. Harland is now 6 months old and still in the NICU at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Harland is still on respiratory support, has had 5 blood transfusions, has chronic lung disease or PBD, pulmonary hypertension, a double hernia, a PDA, and a feeding tube for nutrition. He may need a trach and g tube as well.

During this time,  Ashley has been unable to work her position as an elementary school teacher. Ashley resigned in August to care for her baby and 2 1/2 year old son, resulting in a single income from her husband. This has put a huge burden on their family’s finances.
