Many of us believe that having children will happen when we want and with ease. We never anticipated when we were ready our bodies might not be. Nor did we ever consider how much this dream was going to cost. Our whole life we took this miracle for granted and now we pray, every night, for the means to start our family. We are so grateful to have had the forethought when we received the breast cancer diagnosis that we knew we wanted to create embryos. Neither of us knew why at the time, but we believe God was preparing us for this.
It is very hard for us to ask for anything but we find ourselves here, staring at the overwhelming mountain that is the financial burden of even getting to the starting line. We have spent countless hours on the phone, emailing, asking questions and learning how to make all this possible. Truthfully, we have felt quite paralyzed by the steep financial requirements to move forward. From what we have been told our estimated cost list to get started includes the following:
FDA physical & lab work ~ $3,000
Surrogate Screening ~ $7,200
This does not include Surrogate travel & accommodations
Legal fees ~ $12,000
Treatment Cycle ~ $15,400
Medications ~ $6,000
This is an estimation for just ONE embryo to be implanted into our surrogate. From there all normal fees apply to a traditional pregnancy plus travel and accommodation costs.
One way to alleviate some costs is to choose to do an independent surrogacy journey. This is why we have shared our search publicly instead of using an agency. Using an agency is a wonderful option however, agency costs can range from $90-$150,000 which is just not something we can do at this time.
