Hairless for Hannah Kay

Dear Hannah,

It's Molly and Addy here. Hope all is well up there. Not much has changed down here since you've been gone. There is just a void from where you used to be that no one will ever be able to fill. The pain is just something we all have tried to learn to get used to. It is absolutely crazy to believe it has been over a year since we were last able to see you. Fortunately, your spirit lives on through us. You were always the strong one who put your all into anything that was thrown at you. Now it is our turn to do the same.

For a lack of better terms, Osteosarcoma sucks. It took you away from us too soon. Now we want to do everything in our power to get back at it. We have both become active members of the Courage Ride. Dr. Mo, your oncologist, introduced us to the Courage Ride shortly after your passing. It is an annual bike ride in memory of a young man from Kalona, IA who passed away from a Sarcoma. You're probably wondering what the photoshopped bald picture of us is about. Well... at the event this year we have planned to do something that most people say is crazy; we are going to have our heads shaved. Yeah, we know you are cheering us on up there. But you haven't even heard the best of it yet; Mo and Dr. Miller are shaving them for us! Isn't that just awesome?! Mo is a little nervous, but Dr. Miller cannot wait to get that blade to our heads! We are so excited to do such an amazing thing in your memory. We plan to raise a TON of money in your honor that will then be donated to the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. At the cancer center, the funds will be used for Sarcoma research. They are going to go at this disease with full force, and give it what it deserves.

We are going to do as much as we can to achieve our goal. The only thing is we need a little help from others. We would like to ask for as much support as we can get in doing this from our community and those around us. We need to find a cure for Sarcoma to save the many lives it touches. So…. we ask that anyone who is willing to donate please do so. We feel this is our way to fight for you the way you would have done for us. We are sure there are many other people out there who would love nothing more than to see the lives of others bettered because of the research being supported. Anything will help…. big or small. We want to raise a total of $10,000 or MORE, and we cannot do it alone. So if you can give us a little help down here that would be great; we may need all we can get.

We love you and miss you every day.

Love your sisters,

Molly McDowell (First) and Addy First

P.S. Hopefully our heads are as perfectly round and smooth as the photoshopped ones in the display picture!
