Helping the Aure Family

Donation protected
My name is Jorge A. Bujanda. I am a US citizen by birth but raised in Venezuela, and a physician currently serving as VP of Quality Management for US HealthWorks.

This fundraiser is to help the family of one of my closest colleagues and friends from communist Venezuela, now living in Florida for the past few months.

Adolfo is an Ob-Gyn specialist, his wife a high school chemistry teacher and his 24 year-old daughter an attorney in Venezuela. He has spent years protesting against the oppressive communist government, next to students whom have even been assasinated.

Several months ago, Adolfo performed a C-section without sterile fields, medications, proper sutures or medical supplies and told the father and husband that he had saved both lives.  However, he didn't know what would happen next because of the suture material he had to use, the conditions under which he had to operate, and the fact that there were no antibiotics available.  So, he encouraged the father to complain to the administration about the situation.  In other words, he stood up for his patients while working in a public Venezuelan hospital.  In his own words,  he “couldn’t continue seeing patients suffer unnecessarily or die, due to governmental corruption and incompetence.”

Two weeks later he was fired and his family came under death-threats by the government. He started receiving calls at night, letting him know where his wife and daughters had been during that day, and that they would suffer the consequences for his actions. Her daughter was also threatened at the university.

Adolfo managed to leave the country before the government prohibited him and his family from doing so.  They all came a couple of months ago with a visa and have filed for political asylum.  In the meantime they are  living (a family of professionals) in a very cheap hotel room, infrequently and irregularly washing dishes or helping a plumber or doing construction work for few dollars a day, just to eat pasta and cereal with milk at night.   As I put myself in his shoes, I don't know what I would have done in his same situation.

They have been called for fingerprints by the INS already.  We will continue to help them in the next several months; the time it will take for them to get a provisional work permit and SS number issued by the INS, while they determine their permanent status.

I will continue to help them.  However, I realize that I will not be able to cover all their needs.  Thus, this message for you to possibly help them now, and hopefully during the next 5 or 6 months.  Maybe, you can set up a monthly reminder and contribute whatever you consider proper.  We have set a goal of $2500 dollars but that only covers their legal fees.  As you might imagine, they will need a lot more just to survive.

Their names are:
Adolfo Aure, M.D.  (Venezuelan Degree)
Soraya Aure and
Susana Aure, Esq. (Venezuela Degree)

All funds will go directly to the family as I will not be involved in this process whatsoever.  My sons and I just thought of this as a way of helping them and hope it works.

Best wishes to all from my family as we truly cherish all that we have been given and hope that you will help.  Please give anything you can and send this link to friends and relatives close to you, and feel good about  tangibly helping a family in need.  Thanks in advance for your support.
