My family and I faced great danger back in our home country because of our ties to the western world, which puts us in a position where we were seen as traitors, potentially subject to severe consequences.
My mother was a woman's educational leader and stood for women's rights in my country of birth. She worked closely with the largest women's NGO as a women’s health and education monitor. As you can imagine, those with any ties to US institutions or women's freedoms were targeted by the Taliban who see them as traitors. Even worse, just before they left my country, my 17 year-old brother was beaten with steel cables for playing soccer and having a tattoo because his actions were seen as westernized.
I need to also raise money to pay for my sister, who is in Uzbekistan studying, and is becoming one of the first female Railroad Engineers. Her studies are over and she needs financial support to buy the flight and visa ($2K Cdn) to be able to join my parents now.
We have good news, in that my family has been accepted to come to Canada to one day become Canadian citizens. They are now waiting in a 3rd country, safely away from our home country of Afghanistan, and I have to support them while their paperwork is processing for them to arrive here with me. I have been working 2 jobs and going to school full-time, working to support my family who have not been able to work since August 2021. I’m launching this fundraiser to help my family in their time of need. All funds will be downloaded by my former teacher, Dr. Heather Lebrun, into our community account we have set up for this.
I would be forever grateful to anyone who contributes towards helping me in this endeavor. Thank you very much, from the bottom of my heart!
