For those of you who are fortunate enough to know the Wiig family, you can attest to their kindness and willingness to lend a hand whenever possible. Now is a better time than ever to return the favor!

 

In early 2021, Steve was diagnosed with testicular cancer. After surgery and active monitoring by Michigan Medicine (formerly known as the University of Michigan Health System), Stage 2 cancer was found and confirmed via CT and blood tests in early 2022. Michigan Medicine strongly suggested chemotherapy, and the family was able to work with UP Health System-Marquette to proceed with that recommendation locally.

 

Steve underwent four 5-day long chemotherapy cycles spread out over about three months. As you can imagine, this added quite the load to the Wiig’s already hectic schedule and posed a great dilemma to their family’s finances. Prior to Steve’s diagnosis, Emmye (Steve’s wife) had already put her job on the back burner for availability to assist with their two children's medical and emotional needs, Emil and Waino, so Steve has been the primary provider for the family.

 

With one child that attends daily therapy and an entire family with some extra medical needs as is, the testing, diagnosis, and treatment for Steve’s cancer has been a great weight both emotionally and financially. I am hopeful that our community (and anyone else who feels inclined to!) will assist the Wiig family with their medical and day-to-day needs.
