Hey there, thanks for coming to this community fundraiser page!
My name is Carlyle (Lyle) Chan and I’m a 32 year-old Queer Asian Activist. The current state of the world has seen attacks on the Asian Community, and specifically, here in Vancouver, where Asian Hate Crimes are up by a heartbreakingly 717%.
***UPDATE: I’ve decided to continue this fundraiser throughout the month of May -in celebration of Asian Heritage Month! Please keep the word out and help us reach our goal of $20K! Thank you all for your tremendous support!***
In response to this, I’ve decided to partake in being Dry for the month of April and am committed to raising funds for various charities, foundations, families/individuals, as well as my own family and my personal mental health. The funds will be spread out and donated to the following:
•The Hua Foundation - a youth program that connects Asian youth to cultural education, food systems (helps meals for Asian Seniors) and knowledge mobilization
•the (Vancouver) Chinatown Foundation - charity org dedicated to restoration (physical, commercial and cultural)
•Black Therapy Vancouver - because intersectionality, DUH! And the Black Community needs us rn!!!
•a friend who has asked to remain anonymous and their family - for financial relief and mental health resources
•House of Rice - Queer Drag Queen Troupe because social movements start with Queer+BIPOC Trans Women + Queens
•my extended family - one of my aunts is undergoing dialysis and another aunt needs a cat-scan since her depression is spiking and we’d love to help her mental health!
*I will be paying myself 10-15% (depending on our community efforts) of the funds raised because this takes a lot of emotional+physical work; my time committed to this is invaluable - this is for full transparency!*
My recent fundraiser back in February for the Aboriginal Mother’s Centre is an homage to acknowledging that we are on the Unceded Coast Salish Territory, and the Asian community stands with our Indigenous and Black Communities at large.
*For my fellow Asian Community members*: If there are other organizations or families/individuals that may benefit from this fundraiser, please feel free to reach out to me, I am open to suggestions! I am under the impression that a rising tide lifts all ships, and baby, here comes a tsunami!
It’s us-the Asian community-in the driver’s seat choosing our power, fighting the racialized institutional systems that hinder us from thriving and leaning into how we can stand-up for our beloved Asian community!
