A Little Background...
Hi all! My name is Ashley Muise, and I'm 17 years old. I live with my moms and sister in a small town in Maine. I've always had big dreams and an even bigger need to help people, so when a friend of mine said I should apply for a touring performing arts company that also participates in 200+ hours of community service, I knew it was going to be a perfect fit. So I applied for the program Up With People, and I recently received my acceptance!
What Is 'Up With People'?
Up With People is a non-profit organization that takes people like me to dozens of cities across the U.S, Mexico, and Europe to perform a musical and do community service in places with need. Their mission statement is, "Through music and action, we empower young people to be positive agents of change for a more hopeful, trusting and peaceful world." By being able to participate in this life changing experience, I will be given the opportunity to help people and organizations in less developed or struggling communities across the world!
There could not be a more urgent time than now to be connecting with and helping people. There is so much hate, and division in the world we live in and it is the mission of Up With People to eliminate that. It is especially important for young people, like myself, to go out into the world so that we can continue to build up communities here.
The experience I will receive will not only benefit me, and my goal to become a high school drama teacher, but more importantly it will benefit growing communities just like my own! I will be able to come home from this experience with a fresh perspective, and many new ways to help improve the community.
I believe I can reach this goal- but not without YOU!
