Ashley's Dream of Motherhood

We are Ashley & Jared Murosky. We have been married for over 2 years and have been together for over 7 years. Ashley, who is now 25, has been battling lung cancer since she was 19 years old. Ashley and I have been through a long battle against her cancer for 6 years now. She was diagnosed with Stage II lung cancer caused by a gene mutation known as Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase, or ALK, when she was 19 years old. She was 3 years in remission when she relapsed 3 months before our wedding in September 2016. This time, her diagnosis was Stage IV as her cancer came back in her lungs, brain, and T-11 vertebrae. This completely changed our life as we knew it. In December 2016, 3 months after our wedding, Ashley had brain surgery to remove her tumor. Prior to the surgery she was struggling with seizures and headaches. Luckily, the surgery went well and the tumor was completely removed and her seizures subsided.Then treatment began on the tumors in her lungs and on her spine. Ashley's amazing doctors at Penn State Hershey Medical Center put her on a targeted Kinase Inhibitor (oral chemo therapy) that was designed specifically to attack cancer caused by the ALK mutation. She is currently taking Xalkori (crizotinib) twice a day and thankfully it is working very well for her. However, Ashley has been told she will be battling her cancer for the rest of her life. This means that she will be taking some type of medicine to battle her cancer for the rest of her life. We are lucky enough for her to be doing well right now with her current treatment. However, because of the medicine she is on it is not safe for her to carry a baby. This has been the most difficult part of her entire battle. Ashley wants more than anything to become a mother. So, we have decided to use the money we raised to adopt a newborn child. We recently got accepted by an adoption agency and will begin the process to becoming parents.
