SUPPORT NYC FORRÓ MUSICIANS
Donation protected
Today I'm reaching out on behalf of my NYC Forró community. Consistent with the harsh reality of many local livelihoods lost due to the worldwide pandemic, our community is no exception. As specialists of this music we rely heavily on the income of numerous monthly gigs and events surrounding Forró. Money aside, our ability to share our culturally rich Brazilian music and dance style with all has been dampened. For example, one of our parties, Lily’s Forró Party, a weekly event that exists in New York City, which provides live forró bands and dance classes every Thursday at The Roger Smith Hotel, has been put on hold since March 12th. This represents more than two months of consistent income gone for our musicians. As freelance artists we piece together our full monthly incomes with several gigs and events. Some play weddings, some events and other parties, all cancelled due to Covid 19. It has been a difficult struggle among the musicians as unemployment services have been backed up, even some have gotten sick with the virus, but have thankfully healed. Several of us are scraping by which is why I've arranged this fundraiser.
As a group we are asking for your generous support and donations which will be distributed to the musicians involved in this Forró community who for the last three months have been out of work.
Thank you very much for your consideration and generosity.
