Hello, We are Arcoiris Alliance, a Black and Brown femme-led farm business on the Southside of Chicago. We are raising funds to start a farm business for the south and westside neighborhoods where we sell organically grown produce, canned goods and floral arrangements. Our main goal is to improve food-related health concerns and combat food apartheid by feeding and sharing resources. We also aim to improve mental health in our communities by creating beautiful and colorful floral arrangements.
Arcoiris Alliance translates to "rainbow" alliance. As an ode to the "Rainbow Coalition" initiated by Fred Hampton in Chicago, we plan to continue our ancestor's conversation of resistance and liberation by fostering a strong connection to food and land. Our names are Kam, Cinnamon and Wendy. We met in a sustainable urban horticulture apprenticeship and connected on our shared passion for food sovereignty. We believe that all people have the right to healthy and culturally appropriate foods produced through sustainable and regenerative practices and the right to create the food systems that center them. We understand that our communities have been historically divested from and targeted politically, so we plan to act as part of the solution. The money raised from this fundraiser will be used to rent land, pay for water, buy materials, pay us equitably for labor, and smoothly run markets.
