Anything for Loki…. Raising Money for Hallswood Animal Sanctuary / Nelson’s Journey / Dog and Animal Rescue.

Whilst only a few people know this, my intention this year had been to set myself another challenge on the back of our Hadrian’s Wall effort (85 miles) under 24 hours Sept 29th 2018 and Peddars Way & Norfolk Coastal Footpath Challenge (137 miles over 4 days) (Anything for Oslo) Sept 2020. On both occasions we raised just over £3,700 for our designated causes.

The idea of this year’s challenge was going to be a 3 legged affair which also represented many of the 3 legged animals at The Hallswood Animal Sanctuary whilst aiming to complete the Boudicca Way in March, The Nar Valley Way in April and finally Hadrian’s Wall again in May on what would have been my late dog Oslo’s 17th Birthday.

However, what with everything now being turned upside down with regards to my husky Loki’s sudden ill health, this challenge has to be amended somewhat. This now means taking on the 97.6 miles of the Cross Norfolk Trail from the Wash near Kings Lynn to Great Yarmouth. The route follows the Nar Valley Way before picking up the Wensum Way followed by Marriotts Way to Norwich where it then follows the Wensum River through the city and on to Wherryman’s Way to the North Sea in Gt Yarmouth.

Whereas in the past the intention would have been to do it in one go, what with things as they currently are and not wanting to spend a whole day away from home, this may well still turn into a 3 legged challenge, but just not the one we had intended.

It will still be a huge test (certainly for me) and as much as anything as mentally challenging as it will be physical particularly as  I badly want to get some of it done whilst he is still with us and of course being close to home. Hopefully even have him there for some of it.

I will post more info about all our causes later and every single penny raised will go to Hallswood for some badly needed new enclosures, Nelson’s Journey who most people here in Norfolk are aware of what with the work they do for young, bereaved people, dog rescue and another very special group called the Fox Angels.

Karen Grapes will be taking on the challenge with me as she did for the last one and I am also hoping to drum up a few more good friends who I won’t mention yet until they have all confirmed. I am also hoping lots of other people may want to come along and join us if just for a mile or so whilst of course bringing their dogs along too.

Inspired for the love of our Boy Loki – “Anything for Loki.”
