Anodyne's Funding Campaign to Stay Open

Tax deductible
In March 2020 Anodyne Artist Company temporarily suspended services. This was done as part of the community effort to follow the MN Department of Health guidance for social distancing to help protect the people we serve, our personnel, and the community.  In April, under the “Stay at Home” order, Governor Waltz ordered all day programs to close.  Although the “Stay at Home” order has been lifted for some, the order continues for the majority of the disabled and the day programs that support the disabled.

Unlike other small businesses, Anodyne operates on government waivers, grants, and donations. This means there has been next to no income since March. Having applied for the PPE loans, the government has since run out of money and has left Anodyne in the dark on what to do next. Anodyne has remained unsupported by government grants and loans. This leaves a lot of questions for the future of the business, but more importantly, the future of those with disabilities who rely on Anodyne.

Anodyne Artist Company is a 501(c)(3) non-profit performance and visual arts center developed by artists with disabilities focused on supporting artists with disabilities. Since 1999, Anodyne has been supporting artists with developmental disorders, traumatic brain injuries, autism, physical disabilities, chronic illness and mental illness.

As COVID-19 persists, not everyone has the ability to voice their concerns and struggles. Those with disabilities have been left in situations that make the future as uncertain as the present.

Many of these people attend day programs to enrich their lives and to assure they have access to the community at large. At Anodyne Artist Company, this enrichment comes in the form of: recognizing our differences and focusing on our commonalities through; artistic expression and creative freedom.

It is crucial to have a safe place for these artists to come back to, especially since many live in isolation. The negative impacts on their mental health could be devastating!

85% of donations will go directly to cover overhead expenses; Rent being the biggest. Although most of Anodyne’s creditors have been gracious and are working out a payment plan, other expenses are adding up. Insurance, licensing fees, phone/internet, are all part of keeping Anodyne a safe, functioning place to come back to. This portion will also include partial payment for administrative personnel who have not been paid since March. The other 15% of donations will support Anodyne artists through the purchase of supplies since those items have remained untouched for three months. These items include, paint, canvases, clay, and other visual arts supplies as well as props, costumes, set, and instructing artists/outside support for our theatre.

To ensure Anodyne artists remain enabled, empowered, and encouraged, we need your help. Please help support Anodyne’s disabled artists by making a donation to the studio and theatre that has served as their artistic oasis and place of independence for the last 21 years!

Through your donations, you are empowering people with diverse disabilities to continue safely exploring and executing their self determination

We would like to express our grief for George Floyd’s family and the black community who have suffered at the hands of an unjust system. Our executive director, a black woman/mother will continue to lead Anodyne in a direction that facilitates the safe exploration of; awareness of cultural differences and further developing ones creative attributes through theatre and visual art.
