I will be running 13.1 miles around Los Angeles on Saturday September 5th to raise money for BEAM. My goal is to raise $100 for each mile for a grand total of $1,310.00. In order to make sure I reach my goal, I am asking that if possible when you donate you either:
Sponsor a mile: $100.00
Sponsor a half mile: $50.00
Sponsor a quarter mile: $25.00
Of course any donation is better than nothing-so if you cannot sponsor a quarter mile-I appreciate any donation you can give. Even a dollar helps :)
After the recent murder of George Floyd and the murders of innocent black and brown individuals since, it has become increasingly apparent that racism is as pervasive and insidious as ever in the Untied States. I decided I need to do more to fight racism and oppression as much as possible. As a white person, I feel especially responsible to do my part to dismantle the systemic racism that America was built on and that still exists today. In addition to educating myself and contributing in my own small ways-I want to contribute in a big way. I have decided to run a half marathon to raise money to help the black community.
I have thought long and hard about how I can help and what specific cause I would like to donate to. I wanted to contribute to both social justice and black mental health services. In my research I found BEAM (Black Emotional and Mental Health collective). They contribute to both social justice and black mental health with a unique approach and focus on healing.
