Hello, I am a 11 almost 12 year old 6th grader and my dad is stationed near Washington DC. Today I am asking for YOUR help! (REMEMBER ANY AMOUNT IS VERY APPRECIATED)!
On 1/15/19 42,000 Coast Guard families did not get paid even though they have to work every day and are part of the United States military. All other military branches are getting paid. These Coast Guard families are facing financial problems and this is our turn to STEP UP. Our military is who keeps us safe from harm, and without them we wouldn't be the United States of America.
My dad is in the United States Navy and is Active Duty. As a military dependent I can't imagine my dad not getting paid. I would like to help Coast Guard families by providing them with resources to help them get through this time.
Originally, I wanted to do a food drive, but after thinking more about it, these people are facing enough. I think giving them gift cards to local grocery stores so they can pick out their own food, gift cards to gas stations, and money to help with their home bills (like lights, heat, water) would be a better option. The money donated will be spent on giftcards. 100% of all donations will go to Coast Guard families.
If you know of any Coast Guard families or you are a Coast Guard family that would benefit from these resources, please contact me.
I am working on drop-off locations for gift card donations in the Greater DC area and will update when confirmed! Given the severity of this need and immediacy, I wanted to get acting NOW!
Future planning:
When this need ends, I plan to do research to determine other people that would benefit from this type of donation. In the event there is any left over money or gift cards, I will provide an update on the group/population that will receive them. Thank you in advance for your support. Together WE can make a difference!
