Help Support Honduran Family Awaiting Asylum

Donation protected
Angel and Ana are an electrician and elementary school teacher seeking asylum in the United States in order to protect their one-year old baby daughter from extreme violence  and political unrest in their native home of Honduras.

They fled Honduras in early 2019 after Ana's brother was murdered, although they had experienced myriad traumas prior to this as their country slowly fell apart: constant fear of gang violence, sexual assault,  and perpetual uncertainty from a corrupt police and government. They didn't want to leave their home, their jobs, their family, and their friends but they knew they needed to protect their daughter.

After a dangerous and arduous journey, Ana and Angel arrived in Los Angeles where they claimed asylum. They were put into detention where the conditions were deplorable. There was little food and what was given to them was often spoiled. While in detention, Ana contracted an intestinal bacteria that has resulted in a gastroenterological illness that has been difficult to treat. She suffers from acute gastritis, ulcers, cyclical vomiting, and weight loss.  We are seeking assistance from a GI specialist to treat her. Because she has been so ill, Angel is alone in attempting to seek work, care for Ana, take her to her many doctor appointments,  and care for their daughter.

To make matters worse, a few months ago, Ana and Angel were forced to relocate from Los Angeles (where we came to know them) to San Antonio which is where most immigration proceedings are conducted. The resources we had available to them here are now out of reach for them and they are, sadly, in desperate need of help to provide for their basic needs.

Luckily, we were able to connect with RAICES who have been great in helping us care for them from afar.

But unfortunately, until they are granted asylum, they are not eligible for assistance from the many charities who do great work with the migrant community (as it would not be legal under U.S. law to use federal funds for them).

Therefore, we need your help in raising funds for:

- Food, shelter, and financial assistance for their sponsor family (a rural, low-income family stretched to their limits)
- Funds for transportation to immigration-related meetings and proceedings and medical appointments
- Medical bills, medication costs, special nutrition related to Ana's condition
- Formula, diapers, and nutrition for their baby daughter

Angel and Ana feel awful about accepting help, but it is very clear they need it. We've gotten to know them very well over the past couple months and in a recent conversation, Angel told me that his dream is to get back to work as an electrician again, to see his wife recovered and back working as a teacher, and to give his daughter a safe home to grow up in. We want to support that dream. Immigration is a difficult and brave undertaking and it has been incredibly hard for them (and all our migrant brothers and sisters).

Every donation you make to our adopted family is a massive blessing and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Sincerely,

Sarah & Brigitte

Angel, Ana and Baby
