Amanda's Medical Recovery

Donation protected
Amanda hadn't been feeling well during the beginning of September, but chalked it up to a kidney infection with which she had been diagnosed. Monday, September 16, 2019, she called me to see if I could take her to a doctor appointment because she was feeling worse and couldn't walk up the one flight of stairs to her apartment.

The doctor quickly assessed that she wanted her to go to the ER.  She had lost 2/3 of the blood in her body and it was eventually discovered that her body was attacking and destroying her red blood cells which is why her skin was yellow/grey in color as well as blood and bilirubin was in her urine. Amanda needed a transfusion quickly because she was continuing to lose blood. Without a transfusion it would have been fatal. She didn't normally have a rare blood type, but because of the antibodies that her body was producing, it became difficult to match.

Amanda is still in the hospital with the absolute earliest release being Friday, but quite possibly staying through the weekend or longer depending on how the tests go. She does have insurance, but will be responsible for 20% of her stay and miscellaneous doctor bills as well as trying to recover more than two weeks of income because of what she missed prior to realizing how sick she really was. Amanda will also need to have consistent doctor visits for testing and checkups for many months to make sure this doesn't happen again.

All funds will be directly given to Amanda to use for regular as well as medical bills.
