Philanthropic Travel & Kili Climb
I was sitting with my friend Alex over the holidays and we were talking about life, where we're going, and what we're doing in and for this world. While almost everyone we know is consumed with work, making enough money, paying bills, and getting along - we want something more out of life. I'm not saying that we are not above these problems. We're not, sometimes I barely make enough money to get along, sometimes I make more. My lifestyle doesn't afford many luxuries, but I'm not left wanting for much.
The point is that I'd like to be able to help people in this world with the, perhaps, limited skill set I have in this life:
- I'm a documentary photographer
- I tell great travel stories at parties
- I'm not terribly afeared to walk into strange territory and say hello
- I have an unnatural inclination to save the world
Here's the idea.
After my cousin mentioned that she's like to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania someday, I immediately Shanghaied the idea, set a date, and expanded the concept to include a 2 week volunteer visit to a Non-Profit Orphanage in the area around Kilimanjaro or near Zanzibar. With travel, I would be out of the States for a month.
I need your help.

Donations will be applied to the following funding needs, in this order:
- 2 Weeks volunteering at Orphanage -$1000
- Additional Donations/Supplies to Orphanage - $500
If I get to the $1500 mark, any additional donations will help me get to where I'm going, starting with:
- Approximate Airfare RT Chicago to Tanzania $1800
- Hotel & Transportation Costs $650
Any additional donations after the $3950.00 mark will help me climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.
I plan to travel to Tanzania in 2013. Time of year is being determined, and plans are being carefully laid. Please keep checking back for more details about my upcoming philanthropic adventure!
