We are Steven and Gareth from VH Interiors, we have a shop called The Hive which is on Grosvenor Road in Altrincham.

When we temporarily closed our doors on the 22nd March due to the coronavirus pandemic, we decided to install a small
“Book Bank” using an old bin, for the local community to use whilst on their daily walk.


We thought it might get used a few times, but to our amazement it has been VERY popular!



So we want to replace the temporary bin "Book Bank" which isn’t weather proof and only holds a few dozen books, with a more permanent K6 telephone kiosk "Book Bank", as seen below!

Most importantly the iconic telephone kiosk is weather proof and will be illuminated for use 24 hours a day. We will use our up cycling skills to create shelving (some designs below) meaning it will hold a much larger selection of books, DVD’s & CD’s etc. We will call on our old high school librarian skills to keep it in order too! 

The telephone kiosk 'Book Bank" will be located on the driveway of The Hive which will be adapted to allow the local residents of Altrincham, Timperley, Sale & Hale with a FREE community "Book Bank" 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round!

Restored iconic telephone kiosks don’t come cheap and sell for up to £14,000!! But we have been in touch with a restorer of K6 telephone kiosks and for the kiosk & shipping it’s looking to be around £5,000 in total. 

We will cover the shipping, installation and running costs (electricity for lighting & CCTV etc..) and will put towards the kiosk too, but we are looking for as much help as possible to cover the cost of this community kiosk.
