Help me with Alpha's monthly vet bills :(

Hi, I'm Jaga. I'm in a big pickle, I need help with my sweet girl's monthly veterinary care costs..

How we got here, and how much it means to me

As an only child, an extremely shy one - I've always dreamt and begged my parents for a dog, but we couldn't have one no matter how much I prayed for it and how each Christmas I asked Santa for one.

We moved countries, and a couple years later I spent my mid-late teens surrounded by three German Shepherds that became my life.

I struggled immensely with mental health problems, suicidal ideation and self harm - hand on heart, I would not be here without my soul dog Typhoon who passed away two years ago.

Enough about my sob story.

This is about Alpha, the last one of the three shepherds I grew up with.

My sweet gorgeous girl is approaching 11, she was rescued at 4 months old from an abusive environment and ever since she has been quite timid around men and strangers. She's beautiful, smart and funny.

She's always been very springy, energetic and pretty healthy apart from a bad heart she was born with - thankfully it hasn't gotten any worse nor impacted her for most of her live.

When my parents split up, a lot has changed and unfortunately I was no longer able to live with my dogs which shattered my heart and I felt so guilty that I wasn't able to afford a place where I could have them, as a young adult.

Regardless of not being able to live with them anymore, I've been regularly seeing my dogs and actively participating both physically and financially in their care, driving them to regular hydro and physio sessions for arthritis etc.

Fast forward to now, better late than never, I was offered to take Alpha on full time. What a dream. 1000% yes please.

Unfortunately, she had become ill right before I took her to live with me...I was unaware how serious this was until I brought her to a vet a week later.

She has lost 3kg in a short amount of time, her blood markers for her liver were extremely bad and she was at risk of jaundice.

It was suspected that she may have cancer, leptospirosis or bad chronic hepatitis. With further tests and examinations, cancer (thank god) and lepto were excluded and she was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis. I remember feeling like I am going to faint from fear as I was waiting for possible cancer diagnosis of my angel girl.

We are still at the beginning of treatment at the moment, and I'm really hoping her current medications will work and make her better.

If all goes well and no adjustments need to be made, she must have monthly check ups with bloodwork, and continue on a mixture of medications for the rest of her life.

She had completely stopped and refused eating dry food which is what the rest of my pets are on, it forced me to move her onto wet food diet which creates additional costs (but thank heavens, she is back eating!!)

I have calculated that her medical(incl. physical therapy) and food costs will amount to 700-800 euro per month, for the rest of her life.

Right now, I’m ashamed to admit that this is far more than I can afford in my current circumstances.

I have spent the little savings I've had on the initial unexpected vet bill of 750+ eur - the vet has been very kind to me and discounted/not charged me for certain things. I have an outstanding balance of €110 at the moment, with another consultation and bloodwork on 01.07.2025.

My family has contributed, but they are unable to help me out more going forward.

I would be so grateful if you were able to help me towards her monthly care, I have set a target equivalent to two months of costs covered, to help me get back on my feet and figure something out.

Funds raised will go towards her medical appointments/blood work/medication/food and any emergencies that may occur (may this not happen).
