Allison's India Trip

Dear Ones,
Things are taking shape in some unexpected ways. I've talked to so many people, watched videos, read blogs and visited tourism sites... and in the end I still just want to go with alot of ideas, very few plans, and just see what happens.
1st stop Chennai: I arrive at midnight. So my first adventure will be getting to my hotel in the middle of the night. A friend has arranged for his friend to come pick me up. From Chennai I'll day trip down to Mount Arunachala and to the Navagraha Temples of Chennai. I hear my hotel is walking distance to the beach, so I can take a walk every day. I'm also near a vegetarian restaurant, the Krishnamacharya Madirim, and Vivekananda's bookshop.
After a week or so in Chennai I leave for a 10 day Temple Tour in Tamil Nadu. I'll visit Chidambaram, Mahabalipuram, Rameshvaram, and many others.
At some point I'll break away from the group and head to Kanyakumari and then to Kerala.
In Kerala I hope to visit at least one Sacred Grove, Sita Devi Lake in Idukki, float on the backwaters in a house boat, and go as deep into nature as they'll let me (with a trek guide) to see wildlife and waterfalls in the National Parks. I do hope to make it to the Ayurvedic Center in Kochin, but at this point I still don't have a set plan.
I also hope to trek in Karnataka near Madikeri, perhaps visit the Sandalwood forest in Mysore, and land in Goa before heading back to the States.
There are very few Sarasvati Temples, but the two I plan to visit are in Kerala and Karnataka.
My bag is packed; I'm taking medicine, water treatments, hiking boots, soap, my phone for pictures, and a journal... yes I know it'll be a culture shock, yes I know about squat toilets, yes I know internet will be spotty at best, and yes I've heard the people are some of the friendliest you can hope to meet.
I hope to post to Instagram as often as possible, and please pray that I do ok without a guitar for two months...
Any contributions are deeply appreciated! Thanks for everything and come see me at HoYS for my last weekend of classes Jan. 6-8.
