Alles verloren door brand in Litouwen — vast in buitenland

Since December 28th, my life has been shaped by a series of events that I tried for weeks to manage on my own, each time hoping I would find a way forward. What began as a journey toward a new chapter has unexpectedly turned into a situation I can no longer resolve alone.

At the end of December, I left the Netherlands and traveled toward Estonia to begin a new phase of my life. Besides restoring an important personal relationship, Estonia felt like a place where I could truly settle. The culture, calmness, and way of life had appealed to me for a long time, and I had made a deliberate decision to build my future there — regardless of how that relationship might unfold. This was a considered step forward, not an impulsive one.

My car carried everything I needed for this new beginning — clothing, study materials, personal belongings, and essential equipment. The items I could not take with me had already been left behind in the Netherlands as I prepared for this transition. My cat Simba traveled with me. He is not just a pet; he is family.

On December 28th, during a stop in Panevėžys, Lithuania, Simba escaped from his travel carrier and ran into the snowy forest. Leaving him behind was simply not an option. What should have been a short stop became an intense and ongoing search.

I slept in my car for days in temperatures as low as -25°C to remain close to where he disappeared. Later, I stayed in a nearby hostel while continuing the search every day. A drone specialist generously volunteered his time to assist using thermal imaging, and others joined the effort after hearing my story. Despite this support, my financial reserves were completely depleted by fuel, accommodation, and food. Local media outlet sekunde.lt covered my situation to help expand the search area.

When my resources ran out, I was offered temporary accommodation within a Christian community nearby. It felt like a moment of stability after weeks of uncertainty, allowing me to continue searching for Simba.

Only a few days later, a fire broke out during the daytime in the house where I was staying.

In that fire, I lost nearly everything I had with me for this new beginning — my clothing, laptop, phone, study materials, personal belongings, and important documents. What I had carefully prepared for the next chapter of my life was suddenly gone.

Since then, my situation has become increasingly complicated. To apply for a replacement passport at the embassy, I need official confirmation of the fire. This report is issued only to the property owner, and I have not yet been able to obtain it, preventing me from completing the necessary steps to restore my identification.

Additionally, my car — my only means of transportation and safety — is no longer drivable due to severe automatic transmission failure. Without transport and without valid identification documents, my freedom of movement has almost entirely disappeared.

Since December 28th, I have done everything within my power to carry these setbacks myself and keep moving forward. But I have now reached a point where I must acknowledge that I cannot overcome this situation alone.

I find myself in a foreign country without a stable foundation, without documents, and without transportation, while still hoping to be reunited with my cat and rebuild my life step by step.

For the first time, I am asking for help. Any contribution — no matter the size — will help me regain movement in a situation that is currently at a standstill and give me the chance to move back toward stability, independence, and a future I have been working hard to build.
