Why I started All in For Alondra:
My goal is to help Alondra with the exorbitant amount of fees associated with obtaining a permanent residence card. I have set the bar at $500 or more to help with the legal, immigration, and documentation fees required to apply for a permanent residence card. The total cost is about $5500 and this goal of $500 would relieve some of that financial stress. For my birthday this year, my wish is to achieve this goal of $500 with the help of others. I will be donating any money I receive for my birthday to this All in For Alondra Fund.
Who is Alondra Ponce:
Alondra, a Mexican immigrant, is a hardworking, resourceful and determined 20 year-old woman. She works for our family by providing my parents respite care services by caring for my brother, Logan. Logan has significant disabilities including an autism spectrum disorder. He is non-communicative and can’t provide feedback on how he is being treated, therefore, it is crucial that we trust the person we hire to care for him. Not only does Alondra treat Logan with compassion and dignity, she has a moral compass that guides her to support and advocate for him when they are out in the community.
Alondra has set many life goals for herself and her resiliency has enabled her to overcome innumerable obstacles in an effort to reach those goals. One of her main goals is to become a U.S. citizen. She has a U Visa and accompanying employment authorization document (EAD), which enables her to work in this country. However, in order to continue working in the US she needs to obtain a permanent residence card, i.e. a green card. Since the age of 17, Alondra has been supporting herself and worked incredibly hard to get out of a shelter and pay for her own housing. If Alondra doesn't come up with this money soon, her EAD will expire and she will no longer be able to work in this country. Therefore, she will not be able to provide respite services for my parents.
Why Alondra is so important to our family:
Caring for a child who is non-communicative with significant developmental disabilities, including an autism spectrum disorder and severe behavior issues can be extremely challenging, to say the least. In order for my parents to continue to give Logan the best care that they can, it’s necessary to receive help in the form of respite. Without respite care, my mom and dad would burn out and could not continue to provide quality care for Logan. I feel we have found an exceptional caregiver in Alondra. Not only is she amazing with Logan, she wants to be a part of his life for many years to come.
Donating to this All in For Alondra fund is important to me because of the benefits Alondra provides to my parents. For many years, I have witnessed the struggle my parents go through taking care of Logan. It is not only stressful, it is physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting. This fund will not only help Alondra with some of the necessary fees for her green card, but is a way to help my parents with the daily stress and challenges they face caring for Logan.
