#AliviaStrong Medical Funds

Beschermde donatie
Let me introduce Alivia Stout: she is a fiery little 11-year-old red head.  She loves to read; she always has a book in her hand.  She loves to make cupcakes.  She loves spending time with her grandmas. She loves her church family and will drive you crazy to attend anytime the doors are open.  She loves her brothers and at the same time likes to fight with them!  She loves volleyball and soccer.  She loves her friends.   She thinks her dad walks on water and her mom is awesome (give her a few more years on that one)!  She has her mom’s freckles.  She scored a perfect 600 on the science SOL this year.

On October 6, 2015 her life changed.  As the only 6th grader who made the Martinsville Middle School volleyball team, she was in the locker room getting ready for a game when she suddenly succumbed to violent seizures and lost consciousness.  After an ambulance ride to the local hospital, where they quickly realized she needed a higher level of care, she was air lifted to Carillion Roanoke Memorial Pediatrics ICU.  By the time the family arrived, she was in a sedated coma and on a ventilator.  After a week in PICU, they started the process of trying to wake her up.  October 15 – she opened her eyes briefly.  The next few days consisted of a few eye-waking moments, lots of testing, and continued concerns.  Seizures continued unexpectedly.  October 20 – she woke up and they were able to take her off the ventilator, for which we are so very thankful!

As of today, she is still waiting on answers as to the cause of her illness.  The physicians test all day every day, and have determined a long list of viruses and diseases that she does not have.  However, the cause of her illness is still unknown.    At this time, their best guess is she has autoimmune encephalitis .  She is still in the hospital and each day brings new concerns.  They expect her to be there at least a few more weeks, and then rehabilitation begins. Her recovery will be a long process.  Her dad and mom are awesome folks.  He serves the city through the local police force and her mom was a teacher before being diagnosed with MS.  The community has been so wonderful and caring during this time, bringing meals, snacks, visits, stuffed animals and blankets.

Many have asked “what can we do?”  I would say pray!  Pray for a full recovery and that answers would come to bring about a full recovery.  Secondly, when the time comes that she is well, her dad and mom will find themselves facing a new challenge and that will be the financial burden due to her illness.  We know that the medical bills are mounting.  We have no idea what the final bill will be as we are not sure how long she will remain hospitalized or how long recovery will take.  For those that have asked, we have established this account.  We would welcome your gift of a contribution for Alivia.  This will be used to pay her medical bills and provide rehabilitation when the time comes.  No gift is too small or large, and all will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for caring about Alivia and her family.  Thank you for all the prayers and the love that has been shown toward them.  We don’t know what we would have done without all of you!  Your expressions of love have left us humbled and thankful.
