Alexa's Mitzvah for the Homeless

Hi. My name is Alexa and I'm 12 years old. 2 years ago my family and I were invited to WE day in NYC. I learned how this international charity was founded by two brothers when they were young (like me!) I was so inspired, and I immediately knew I wanted to be an agent of change!

I am currently preparing for my bat mitzvah and have pledged to start making a difference locally where I can rally my friends and together make a greater impact. One area I am concentrating on is homelessness. Did you know that there are approximately 500,000 homeless people across the United States and approximately 100,000 are children?  I can’t imagine how difficult life would be if I had to worry about staying warm, dry and safe all while studying for math, science and social studies!

I asked my Mom and Dad to post something to help me raise money for our local Habitat for Humanity. The money I raise will go directly to 5 families in our community. I have pledged to supply these 5 families with a laundry basket full of life’s necessities. Necessities like, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, laundry detergent, disinfectant wipes are just to name a few.  

I am pledging to help 5 families in my community get back on their feet. A bake sale, building walls, neighborhood cleanup and a GoFundMe where 100% of ALL donations go directly to their necessities.
