Aileen's Road to Recovery
Our daughter, sister, niece, Aunt, cousin, girlfriend, and friend Aileen Donato has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Melanoma. Three weeks into the immunotherapy treatment she developed Bell’s Palsy and Gillian Barre Syndrome, GBS. The Bell’s Palsy is getting better but the GBS is proving to be a much harder fight. Aileen was admitted to Memorial Sloan Kettering on 3/5 and stayed there unable to walk or move her arms and hands with little improvement until she was moved to St. Charles Acute Rehab on 3/30. Although Aileen is a fighter and she’s feeling stronger everyday the team at Sloan feel it’s best she return to them for further treatment. Anyone who knows Aileen knows she’s a very private person and doesn’t feel the need to bother people with her battle. Because so many friends have asked about a fund we decided to go ahead and start one. Aileen has a long road ahead of her but we all know she’ll make it to the end. If love could carry her, she’d be there already. Thank you for your love and support.
