AI For Tigray

Think of the person you miss the most today.

Now, imagine that you don't know whether they are alive or dead because you couldn't reach out to them.

Imagine that you don't know if they are sick or not because you know they don't have access to basic medication.

Imagine that you don't know if they have eaten or not because you know they neither have access to banking services nor get paid to buy food.

Imagine that you don't know if they have survived a drone attack or not because you know their city has been bombed several times.

Imagine who enabled this are 'the government' and 'elites' of their own country. A country they dearly loved and served.

And, imagine this has been happening for 780+ days.

Even worse, imagine you're the person who's being missed.

This is what the people of Tigray go through every day.

Tigray, a region in northern Ethiopia, is currently facing a humanitarian crisis. The region has been engulfed in conflict, and as a result, it is estimated that over 600,000 civilians have been killed, and more than 900,000 people in Tigray are in famine conditions. Another 2 million people are on the brink of famine. In total, over 5.2 million people in Tigray are in need of emergency aid, and more than 2.3 million children need humanitarian assistance.

We, a few members of The Africa I Know, are organizing a charity conference convening the AI community at large around the theme "New Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence". All the proceeds of the conference, including from sponsorship, donations, and conference registration, will go towards humanitarian aid. We are partnering with the Health Professionals Network for Tigray, an organization working to provide urgent humanitarian aid such as food and healthcare.
