Hi, my name is Christina Kujanpää and I live in Houston Texas.

Early this morning around 2:00 a.m., my husband Josef's younger sister had an alarm ring out on her phone which woke her and her husband immediately. After reading the message, they quickly got out of bed, grabbed one pair of shoes and one coat for each child, woke their children and rushed them to the car. They then grabbed one flute and one violin along with some documents and fled into the night. Santa Rosa was on fire. After driving for a few hours and making it to a hotel, the Wades heard the news that their home had burned to the ground. In a matter of four hours they had lost everything.

Just a few weeks ago, Josef and I also rushed our children with just a few clothes and shoes out into the night and drove for hours to try to escape the dangers of Hurricane Harvey. We know the fear that brings and we know the feeling of uncertainty that tags along with evacuation. What we don't know however, is the feeling of not being able to come back.

Kristin and Ben are wonderful, good, hard-working people and parents. Their three little children, Abram (6), Aila (4) and Emerson (2), are well-behaved, smart, lovely kids. They love legos and ponies and puppies. Abram is learning the violin and Aila the piano. They loved playing with their scooters on their driveway and learning how to garden with their mom in the back yard.

Now, there is no place to call home. They have none of their toys or clothes, or things that feel familiar.

The next step for this family will be to find a new house and then try to fill it with things that take a house to a home. Things that we take for granted- like plates and socks and beds. The journey will be long, but we can help.

I for one, will go without ice cream for the next few months and will sell my excess from my closet to aid the Wades. Will you join me in helping them?
