Aid Alicia Miller in Her Fight for Health and Stability

My name is Alicia Miller. For most of my life, I’ve been living in a very healthy way. I love to make friends, I am a proud single mother of a Marine, and my family is far away. I enjoy nature, my pets, and life.

For over a year, I had been experiencing long menstrual periods. Now I know this was due to a fibroid (tumors that grow in a woman's womb).

In March, while in the bathroom, I noticed and experienced with great distress increased bleeding, and that the fibroid had begun to protrude from my private area, becoming larger. Frightened, I pushed it back inside myself and immediately went to the emergency room.

Unfortunately, the West Kendall Baptist Hospital emergency room didn't perform the necessary tests; they only took my blood pressure and weight. A general doctor made a revision, not a full revision, and sent me home with instructions to see a gynecologist.

Following this recommendation, I found a specialist who ordered tests. However, three days later, when I went to the gynecologist, I fainted at home and had to be admitted to the emergency room with a hemoglobin of 6.5 (normal range for women: 11.6 to 15). I was immediately hospitalized, and my blood loss was so severe that I had to undergo three blood transfusions.

The next day, what was supposed to be just an operation turned into a nightmare. I was admitted for surgery to remove the fibroid, a procedure that was originally supposed to last 45 minutes. However, during the procedure, the doctor accidentally perforated my colon and uterus. Unfortunately, they had to cut my intestine, and now I have a medical bag connected to my abdomen, which drains my fecal matter. In addition, I must remain in bed and repose for three months before undergoing another surgery, where my intestine and colon will be joined, thus sealing the risk of serious infection. After this next surgery, I will have to remain in bed and repose for another period of time to fully recover.

Due to my condition, I lost one of my jobs and have been forced to leave my other two jobs. Thus, I have faced serious financial challenges and difficulties to endure my current condition, my medical bills, my rent, and all the expenses that I cannot afford to pay right now. My family is in another country, and my mom had to leave her job and home to come and take care of me during this difficult time. I really try to stay positive, with much faith that I’m going to be alright, but it is very hard. I’m not calm. I’m fearful of having any more complications and submitting to the next surgery. I am very concerned all the time about my situation.

That's why I had to resort to this with my cause, with the faith and hope of raising funds that can help me during this difficult and complicated time.

Me llamo Alicia Miller. Durante la mayor parte de mi vida, he llevado una vida muy saludable. Me encanta hacer amigos, soy la orgullosa madre soltera de un infante de marina y mi familia vive lejos. Disfruto de la naturaleza, de mis mascotas y de la vida. 

 Durante más de un año, tuve menstruaciones largas. Ahora sé que se debía a un fibroma (tumores que crecen en el útero). 

 En marzo, mientras estaba en el baño, noté y experimenté con gran angustia un aumento del sangrado, y que el fibroma había empezado a sobresalir de mis partes íntimas, agrandándose. Asustada, lo empujé dentro de mi y fuí inmediatamente a urgencias. 

 Desafortunadamente, en urgencias del Hospital Bautista de West Kendall no me realizaron las pruebas necesarias; solo me tomaron la presión arterial y me pesaron. Un médico general me hizo una revisión, no una revisión completa, y me envió a casa con instrucciones de ver a un ginecólogo. 

 Siguiendo esta recomendación, encontré un especialista que me pidió estudios. Sin embargo, tres días después, de ir al ginecólogo, me desmayé en casa y tuve que ingresar en urgencias con una hemoglobina de 6,5 (rango normal en mujeres: 11,6 a 15). Me hospitalizaron de inmediato y la pérdida de sangre fue tan grave que tuve que recibir tres transfusiones.

 Al día siguiente, lo que se suponía que sería solo una operación se convirtió en una pesadilla. Me ingresaron para extirparme el mioma, un procedimiento que originalmente debía durar 45 minutos. Sin embargo, durante el procedimiento, el médico me perforó accidentalmente el colon y el útero. Desafortunadamente, tuvieron que cortarme el intestino, y ahora tengo una bolsa de plástico conectada al abdomen que drena mis heces. Además, debo permanecer en cama y en reposo durante tres meses antes de someterme a otra cirugía, donde me unirán el intestino y el colon, lo que eliminará el riesgo de una infección grave. Después de esta próxima cirugía, tendré que permanecer en cama y en reposo durante un tiempo más para recuperarme por completo. 

 Debido a mi condición, perdí uno de mis trabajos y me vi obligada a dejar los otros dos. Por lo tanto, he enfrentado serios desafíos financieros y dificultades para sobrellevar mi condición actual, mis facturas médicas, mi alquiler y todos los gastos que no puedo pagar ahora mismo. Mi familia está en otro país, y mi madre tuvo que dejar su trabajo y su hogar para venir a cuidarme durante este momento difícil. Intento mantener una actitud positiva, con mucha fe en que estaré bien, pero es muy difícil. No estoy tranquila. Tengo miedo de tener más complicaciones y de tener que someterme a la siguiente cirugía. Estoy muy preocupada constantemente por mi situación.  

Por eso tuve que recurrir a esto con mi causa, con la fe y la esperanza de recaudar fondos que puedan ayudarme en este momento difícil y complicado.
