My name is Jonathan;
Late last month I contacted a local humanitarian organization in San Jose, Costa Rica who would help me find a community project to volunteer and work at for few months. I hoped on a plane with nothing but my backpack really not knowing where I was going to end up or the nature of my work. Upon my arrival I was introduced to my new home for the next couple months: La Carpio, a slum city in the suburbs of the capital San Jose. I would be working with kids of ages 2-12 at a church that functions as a soup kitchen/ daycare/ English teaching school and community support.
The Short Story:
I need your help renovate an existing but non-functioning kitchen that will self operate and serve as mean of constant self support and continual source of income to the church who today relies solely on the donation of generous benefactors and is left at all time waiting for “the next donation” that may or may not arrive. The plan is not to donate small amounts of money throughout the year but rather invest one time only in the establishment and create something that will help it support itself in the future. Teach them how to fish instead of giving them fish.

Background Story:
This is the life in La Carpio.
It is the life of almost 40 000 individual living in a slum city outside the capital of a third-world Central American country. Space is so restricted that people started building their houses of fortune on top of each other. Streets are so dangerous that even locals would not dare to venture outside after dark hours and the city has now grown to be known as the second most dangerous area in central America the first being in Mexico infamous for their gangs and drug cartels. Most houses have no electricity, gas or hot water and families have trouble feeding, clothing and caring for their children. In fact most kids here have only one full meal on average every 3 days and the cloth they wear have probably been worn by at least 4-5 other kid before ending up on their shoulders. Hygiene is almost non-existent and diseases part of the routine with only one extremely under funded “clinic” serving an entire community.
Above all of that, the most important thing that La Carpio really lacks is education. In fact only 1% of the kids that passes by the church will receive a proper education that will lead him to receive a college degree and later on have a career. That means that none of the 46 kids that I see everyday will receive that education. None of the kids that will pass by the church next year will receive that education neither. In fact its only ONE of those kids every three year that will do so.
La Casa De Oración:
In the middle of all of that is La Iglesia La Casa De Oración. The church consist of one building only with a very small outside court. The actual service hall functions as an English teaching school, the court outside is a daycare and the kitchen used to operate as a soup kitchen for the community but not anymore due to lack of funds, supplies and materials.
There are 3 individuals only caring for around 46 kids. Viviana takes care of the teaching upstairs and both Theresa and Daniella are in charge of the daycare outside. All of which are there completely as volunteers not receiving one dime in return of the great work that they do everyday and have been doing for YEARS now.
The kids are absolutely incredible. They have nothing and need nothing. The toys they play with are all broken and very old and are the same everyday but it absolutely does not matter to them AT ALL.
They are VERY HAPPY. Their shirts have holes in them, they have not had a full meal or a shower in days; its truly impossible to describe the smiles on their faces every morning when they come in. I just do not have the words to describe it. But I do think that it is very sad the fact that it is only that way because they really have never known anything else, anything “better”.
The Needs:
The floor inside the building has no piles in it and the walls have no paint. The ceiling leaks when its rain and the power goes off at different times of the day. There is no window openings in the walls and at the same time absolutely no other way of ventilation in the building through fans or other. But all of that ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT MATTER. What La Carpio needs right now is much more urgent then that. They need food, they need school supplies, they need pens they need papers, they need chairs to sit on! There are so many things that they need.
The Plan:
La casa has had numerous generous contributions over the years from very generous individuals and volunteers from all around the world. While these donations have been absolutely necessary to keep the establishment operational, they tend to have a limited long-term effects. The church finds itself at all times waiting for “the next” money donation for it to be able to buy more materials and supplies.
The plan is to create something within the small walls of the church that would be able to generate a small income that would serve as a constant and continual support to the church. In other terms have the church self support itself.
Instead of having multiple small cash donations come in through the year, ideally, we would have ONE generous donation that would rather take the form of an investment within the church into something that would later on donate back to the church continually on a weekly/monthly basis.
How To Achieve It:
The idea seem crazy but I truly believe within every inch of my heart that its absolutely doable.
Within the church is a small currently non-functioning kitchen that used to operate in the past as a soup kitchen for the community. If renovated with just the basic kitchen supplies, few shelves, running water, gas, lighting and food supplies, the kitchen can be up and running again and the church would be able to cook a nice meal on Sundays to sell for a very small amount of money after each service. The concept have been tried before and has proved to be successful in the past but was later discontinued for lack of funds and mainly lack of maintenance to the kitchen.
The amount of money that I have set as goal for this page would be absolutely fundamental to have the kitchen up and running again and buy the necessary food supplies to cook.

أنا إسمي جوناثن. اتصلت الشهر الفائت بمنظمة انسانية في سان خوسي – كوستا ريكا لتساعدني على العثور على عمل مجتمعي حيث يمكنني أن أتطوع وأعمل في الأشهر القليلة المقبلة. لقد ركبت الطائرة وسافرت إلى تلك المنطقة حاملا حقيبة ظهر واحدة ودون أن أعلم ما في انتظاري هناك. تعرفت فور وصولي على المكان الذي سيكون بيتي خلال الشهرين المقبلين: لا كاربيو. وقيل لي أنني سأعمل مع أطفال تتراوح أعمارهم بين الـ2 والـ12 سنة في كنيسة تعمل كحضانة، ومدرسة كما تطعم المجتمع وتساهم في دعمه.
باختصار:
انني بحاجة إلى مساعدتكم لإنشاء مطبخ يكون بمثابة وسيلة للدعم الذاتي المستمر ومصدر دخل دائم للكنيسة التي تعتمد حاليا على تبرعات المحسنين السخية والتي تنتظر دائما "التبرع المقبل". الخطة ليست التبرع بمبالغ صغيرة على مدار السنة بل الاستثمار لمرة واحدة في تأسيس شيء من شأنه أن يساعد الكنيسة في دعم نفسها في المستقبل. بدل أن تعطي أحداً سمكة، علمه كيف يصطاد السمك.
معلومات أساسية:
الحياة في لا كاربيو:
هي حياة ما يقارب 40.000 شخصاً يعيشون في الأحياء الفقيرة خارج عاصمة بلد من بلدان أمريكا الوسطى الذي ينتمي إلى العالم الثالث. بدأ السكان ببناء منازلهم على سطوح المنازل الأخرى بسبب اقتصار المساحة. إضافة إلى ذلك لا يتجرء السكان المحليين على الخروج من منازلهم في ساعات الليل لأن الشوارع في غاية الخطورة. أصبحت هذه المدينة ثاني أخطر منطقة في أمريكا الوسطى بعد المكسيك المشهور للأسف بعصاباته وعصابات المخدرات. لم تصل الكهرباء أو الغاز أو الماء الساخن إلى معظم المنازل وتجد العائلات صعوبة في تغدية، كسو ورعاية أطفالها. يحصل معظم الأطفال على وجبة كاملة واحدة كل 3 أيام، أما الثياب التي يرتدونها فقد استعملها أطفال آخرين 4-5 مرات قبلهم. إن النظافة شبه معدومة والأمراض جزء من الحياة اليومية ، تخدم "عيادة" واحدة المجتمع بأكمله دون أن تتمتع بتمويل كبير .
ما هو أهم من كل ذلك وما ينقص لا كاربيو فعلاً هو التعليم. لا يحظى سوى 1% من الأطقال الذين يأتون إلى الكنيسة بتعليم مناسب يقودهم الى الحصول على شهادات جامعية وفيما بعد إلى الحصول على وظيفة. مما يعني أن أحداً من الـ46 طفلاً الذين أراهم يومياً سوف يتلقى هذا التعليم، ولا أحداً من الأطفال الذين سيأتون إلى الكنيسة في العام المقبل سوف يتلقى هذا التعليم. طفلا واحداً فقط يحظى بذلك كل ثلاث سنوات.
الكنيسة:
في وسط كل هذا تعمل كنيسة ----. تتكون الكنيسة من مبنى واحد ومن ملعب صغير جداً في الخارج. يستعمل مكان الصلاة كمدرسة لتعليم اللغة الانكليزية، أما الملعب في الخارج فهو يستعمل كحضانة، وفيما يخص المطبخ فهو كان مكاناً يطعم المجتمع لكنه توقف عن ذلك بسبب نقص الأموال، واللوازم والمواد.
يهتم 3 أشخاص بـ46 طفلاً. تهتم فيفيانا بالتعليم أما تيريزا ودانييلا فهما مسؤولتان عن الحضانة. تلك النساء متطوعات ولا تتلقين أية أموال مقابل هذا العمل الرائع الذي تقمن به كل يوم طيلة سنوات عدة.
أما الأطفال فهم رائعين. لا يمتلكوا شيئاً وهم ليسوا بحاجة لشيء. يلعبون كل يوم بالألعاب المكسرّة والقديمة نفسها ولكنهم لا يهتمون لذلك.
انهم سعداء للغاية. تأكل الثقوب قمصانهم، لم يأكلوا وجبة كاملة ولم يستحموا منذ أيام. من الصعب جداً وصف ابساماتهم التي يرتدونها كل يوم. لكنني أعتقد أنه من المؤسف أنهم لم تتسنى لهم الفرصة لمعرفة أشياء أخرى، أشياء أفضل.
الحاجات:
الأرض داخل الكنيسة غير مبلّطة والجدران ليست مطلية. تتسرب الأمطار من السقف وتنقطع الكهرباء عدة مرات يومياً. لا يوجد فتحات للنوافذ في الجدران وليس هنالك أية وسيلة أخرى للتهوءة مثل المراوح وغيرها. لكن تلك الأمور غير مهمة الآن. ما تحتاج إليه لا كاربيو أكثر الحاحاً من ذلك بكثير. السكان في حاجة إلى لوازم مدرسية، إلى أقلام وأوراق، إلى كراس ليجلسوا عليها. سكان لا كاربيو في حاجة إلى العديد من الأمور.
الخطة:
لقد قدم العديد من الأفراد والمتطوعين تبرعات سخيّة للكنيسة على مرّ السنين. في حين أن هذه التبرعات كانت مهمة جداً لاستمرار هذا الهيكل إلا أنها لا تقدم حلولاً على المدى الطويل. لهذا السبب تنتظر الكنيسة في بعض الأحيان "التبرع المقبل" لكي تستطيع شراء المزيد من المواد واللوازم.
تهدف الخطة إلى انشاء شيء ما ضمن جدران الكنيسة يكون قادرا على توليد مدخول صغير يكون بمثابة دعم متواصل ومستمر لها، أي مساعدة الكنيسة في دعم نفسها.
بدل من تقديم تبرعات مالية صغيرة على مدار السنة، نطمح إلى جمع تبرع واحد سخي يكون بمثابة استثمار في الكنيسة، ويؤدي إلى بناء شيء يولد مدخولاً ثابتاً للكنيسة أسبوعياً أو شهرياً.
كيفية تحقيق ذلك:
أعلم أن الفكرة تبدو كبيرة وصعبة لكنني أعتقد أننا يمكننا تحقيقها.
يوجد في الكنيسة مطبخاً كان يقدم الطعام لأبناء المجتمع إلا أنه لم يعد يعمل الآن. إذا استطعنا ترميمه فقط بواسطة لوازم المطبخ الأساسية، والقليل من الرفوف، والمياه الجارية، والإضاءة والمواد الغذائية، سوف يعمل المطبخ من جديد وتستطيع الكنيسة عندها طهي وجبات طيّبة كل يوم أحد تبيعها بمبالغ صغيرة جداً لأفراد المجتمع بعد القداس. تم تجريبة هذه الخطة من قبل وتبين أنها فعالة لكنها توقفت في وقت لاحق لعدم وجود الأموال ولعدم الإهتمام بالمطبخ.
إن المبلغ الذي وضعته كهدف لهذه الصفحة أساسي لنتمكن من إعادة تشغيل المطبخ ولشراء اللوازم .

Pour ceux qui me connaissent et pour ceux qui ne me connaissent pas, je vous remercie de tout mon cœur pour avoir pris le temps de lire ce qui suit.
Je m’appelle Jonathan. J’ai contacte le mois passé une organisation humanitaire basée à San José – Costa Rica qui pourrait m’aider à trouver un projet communautaire là où je pourrais travailler comme volontaire pour les quelques mois à venir. J’ai pris l’avion sans savoir ce qui m’attendait et ne prenant avec moi qu’un sac ê dos. Dès mon arrivée on m’a présenté ce qui sera ma nouvelle maison pour les deux mois prochains : La Carpio. Je serais en train de travailler avec des enfants de 2 a 12 ans dans une église qui est à la fois une garderie/ une école, elle offre des repas à la communauté et travaille dans le champ du soutien communautaire. .
En bref:
J’ai besoin de votre aide pour construire une cuisine qui servira comme source permanente de revenu à l’église qui dépend aujourd’hui des dons de généreux bienfaiteurs et qui attend toujours « le prochain don ». Le but de ce projet n’est pas de faire de petites contributions durant toute l’année mais d’investir pour une seule fois dans la construction de cette cuisine et de créer un élément qui pourra s’auto-soutenir dans le futur. Apprenez-leur à pêcher au lieu de leur donner du poisson.
Contexte:
La vie a La Carpio :
C’est la vie d’à peu près 40 000 personnes qui vivent dans un bidonville hors de la capitale d’un pays de l’Amérique Centrale appartenant au tiers-monde. A cause du manque d’espace, les personnes ont dû construire leurs maisons l’une au dessus de l’autre. Les rues sont tellement dangereuses que les habitants n’osent pas sortir de leurs maisons avec la tombée de la nuit. Cette ville est devenue la seconde région la plus dangereuse en Amérique Centrale, suite au Mexique malheureusement célèbre pour ces gangs et cartels de drogue. La majorité des maisons n’ont pas d’électricité, ni de gaz, ni d’eau chaude et les familles ont du mal à nourrir, habiller et prendre soin de leurs enfants. En effet, la majorité des enfants ici n’ont droit qu’a un seul repas complet en moyenne tous les 3 jours et les habits qu’ils portent ont été probablement utilisés par 4-5 enfants avant eux. L’hygiène est presque inexistante et les maladies font partie de la vie quotidienne, avec une seule « clinique » extrêmement sous-financée au service de toute une communauté.
Ce qui est encore plus important à La Carpio c’est le manque d’éducation. Seulement 1% des enfants qui viennent à l’église reçoivent une bonne éducation qui leurs permettra d’aller à l’université et d’avoir une carrière professionnelle ensuite. Cela veut dire qu’aucun des 46 enfants que je vois chaque jour auront cette opportunité et cette éducation. Aucun des enfants qui viendront à cette église l’année prochaine ne recevra cette éducation non plus. Au fait, juste UN enfant aura cette opportunité chaque 3 ans.
L’église:
Au milieu de tout cela, vient l’église ----. L’église consiste d’un seul bâtiment avec une très petite cour. Le lieu de prière sert d’espace pour l’école d’anglais, la cour est une garderie et la cuisine servait des repas pour la communauté, mais elle ne fonctionne plus pour manque de fonds, fournitures et matériel.
Seules trois personnes prennent soin de 46 enfants. Viviana leurs enseigne l’anglais, quant à Theresa et Daniella elles sont en charge de la garderie. Ces trois personnes sont des volontaires qui ne reçoivent aucun sou en retour de leur excellent travail qu’elles font tous les jours et le font depuis des ANNEES.
Les enfants sont absolument incroyables. Ils n’ont rien et n’ont besoin de rien. Les jouets avec lesquels ils jouent chaque jour sont très anciens et cassés mais cela n’est d’aucune importance pour eux.
Ils sont TRES HEUREUX. Leurs chemises sont trouées et ils n’ont pas mangé un repas complet ni pris une douche pendant des jours. Il est vraiment impossible de décrire leurs visages souriants chaque jour qu’ils viennent à l’église. Je ne trouve pas les mots pour le décrire. Mais je pense que c’est vraiment triste qu’ils n’ont pas eu l’opportunité de connaitre autre chose, quelque chose de « meilleur ».
Les besoins:
Le sol à l’intérieur du bâtiment n’est pas couvert et les murs ne sont pas peints. Quand il pleut le plafond fuit et l’électricité se coupe plusieurs fois durant la journée. Dans le mur il n’y a pas d’ouvertures pour les fenêtres et il n’existe aucune autre mode de ventilation dans le bâtiment comme par exemple des ventilateurs. Tout cela n’a absolument AUCUNE IMPORTANCE. La Carpio a besoin de quelque chose qui est bien plus urgent. Les habitants ont besoin de la nourriture, des fournitures scolaires, ils ont besoin de crayons et de papiers, et de chaises pour s’assoir ! Il y a tellement de choses dont ils ont besoin.
Le plan:
Au fil des années, plusieurs personnes et volontaires généreux venant de tout le monde ont offert de nombreuses contributions à l’église. Bien que ces donations soient extrêmement nécessaires pour garder l’établissement fonctionnel, elles n’ont pas d’effet à long terme. L’église attend toujours le « prochain » don monétaire pour pouvoir acheter du matériel et des fournitures.
Le plan est de créer un élément dans l’église qui sera en mesure de générer un petit revenu qui servira comme un soutien constant et continu à l'église. En d’autre termes aider l’église à s’auto-soutenir.
Au lieu d’avoir de petits dons durant l’année, nous voudrons idéalement avoir un don généreux qui sera comme un investissement dans l’église, et qui générera ensuite à l’église un revenu hebdomadaire/mensuel.
Comment l’achever:
Je sais que l’idée semble être impossible mais je crois de tout mon cœur qu’on peut l’achever.
Il existe dans l’église une petite cuisine qui ne fonctionne pas mais qui offrait auparavant des repas à la communauté. Si la cuisine est rénovée avec juste les fournitures de cuisine de base, quelques étagères, de l’eau, de l’électricité et des approvisionnements alimentaires, l’église pourrait cuisiner de bon repas les dimanches et les vendre à un prix très réduit après chaque messe. Ce concept a été déjà essayé et fut un succès, toutefois il a été arrêté pour manque de fonds et surtout le manque d'entretien de la cuisine.
La somme d’argent que j'ai mis comme objectif pour cette page serait absolument fondamentale pour que la cuisine fonctionne à nouveau et pour acheter les approvisionnements alimentaires nécessaires pour cuisiner.

My name is Jonathan;
Late last month I contacted a local humanitarian organization in San Jose, Costa Rica who would help me find a community project to volunteer and work at for few months. I hoped on a plane with nothing but my backpack really not knowing where I was going to end up or the nature of my work. Upon my arrival I was introduced to my new home for the next couple months: La Carpio, a slum city in the suburbs of the capital San Jose. I would be working with kids of ages 2-12 at a church that functions as a soup kitchen/ daycare/ English teaching school and community support.
The Short Story:
I need your help renovate an existing but non-functioning kitchen that will self operate and serve as mean of constant self support and continual source of income to the church who today relies solely on the donation of generous benefactors and is left at all time waiting for “the next donation” that may or may not arrive. The plan is not to donate small amounts of money throughout the year but rather invest one time only in the establishment and create something that will help it support itself in the future. Teach them how to fish instead of giving them fish.

Background Story:
This is the life in La Carpio.
It is the life of almost 40 000 individual living in a slum city outside the capital of a third-world Central American country. Space is so restricted that people started building their houses of fortune on top of each other. Streets are so dangerous that even locals would not dare to venture outside after dark hours and the city has now grown to be known as the second most dangerous area in central America the first being in Mexico infamous for their gangs and drug cartels. Most houses have no electricity, gas or hot water and families have trouble feeding, clothing and caring for their children. In fact most kids here have only one full meal on average every 3 days and the cloth they wear have probably been worn by at least 4-5 other kid before ending up on their shoulders. Hygiene is almost non-existent and diseases part of the routine with only one extremely under funded “clinic” serving an entire community.
Above all of that, the most important thing that La Carpio really lacks is education. In fact only 1% of the kids that passes by the church will receive a proper education that will lead him to receive a college degree and later on have a career. That means that none of the 46 kids that I see everyday will receive that education. None of the kids that will pass by the church next year will receive that education neither. In fact its only ONE of those kids every three year that will do so.
La Casa De Oración:
In the middle of all of that is La Iglesia La Casa De Oración. The church consist of one building only with a very small outside court. The actual service hall functions as an English teaching school, the court outside is a daycare and the kitchen used to operate as a soup kitchen for the community but not anymore due to lack of funds, supplies and materials.
There are 3 individuals only caring for around 46 kids. Viviana takes care of the teaching upstairs and both Theresa and Daniella are in charge of the daycare outside. All of which are there completely as volunteers not receiving one dime in return of the great work that they do everyday and have been doing for YEARS now.
The kids are absolutely incredible. They have nothing and need nothing. The toys they play with are all broken and very old and are the same everyday but it absolutely does not matter to them AT ALL.
They are VERY HAPPY. Their shirts have holes in them, they have not had a full meal or a shower in days; its truly impossible to describe the smiles on their faces every morning when they come in. I just do not have the words to describe it. But I do think that it is very sad the fact that it is only that way because they really have never known anything else, anything “better”.
The Needs:
The floor inside the building has no piles in it and the walls have no paint. The ceiling leaks when its rain and the power goes off at different times of the day. There is no window openings in the walls and at the same time absolutely no other way of ventilation in the building through fans or other. But all of that ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT MATTER. What La Carpio needs right now is much more urgent then that. They need food, they need school supplies, they need pens they need papers, they need chairs to sit on! There are so many things that they need.
The Plan:
La casa has had numerous generous contributions over the years from very generous individuals and volunteers from all around the world. While these donations have been absolutely necessary to keep the establishment operational, they tend to have a limited long-term effects. The church finds itself at all times waiting for “the next” money donation for it to be able to buy more materials and supplies.
The plan is to create something within the small walls of the church that would be able to generate a small income that would serve as a constant and continual support to the church. In other terms have the church self support itself.
Instead of having multiple small cash donations come in through the year, ideally, we would have ONE generous donation that would rather take the form of an investment within the church into something that would later on donate back to the church continually on a weekly/monthly basis.
How To Achieve It:
The idea seem crazy but I truly believe within every inch of my heart that its absolutely doable.
Within the church is a small currently non-functioning kitchen that used to operate in the past as a soup kitchen for the community. If renovated with just the basic kitchen supplies, few shelves, running water, gas, lighting and food supplies, the kitchen can be up and running again and the church would be able to cook a nice meal on Sundays to sell for a very small amount of money after each service. The concept have been tried before and has proved to be successful in the past but was later discontinued for lack of funds and mainly lack of maintenance to the kitchen.
The amount of money that I have set as goal for this page would be absolutely fundamental to have the kitchen up and running again and buy the necessary food supplies to cook.

أود أن أشكر من يعرفني و من لا يعرفني على قراءتهم ما يلي.
أنا إسمي جوناثن. اتصلت الشهر الفائت بمنظمة انسانية في سان خوسي – كوستا ريكا لتساعدني على العثور على عمل مجتمعي حيث يمكنني أن أتطوع وأعمل في الأشهر القليلة المقبلة. لقد ركبت الطائرة وسافرت إلى تلك المنطقة حاملا حقيبة ظهر واحدة ودون أن أعلم ما في انتظاري هناك. تعرفت فور وصولي على المكان الذي سيكون بيتي خلال الشهرين المقبلين: لا كاربيو. وقيل لي أنني سأعمل مع أطفال تتراوح أعمارهم بين الـ2 والـ12 سنة في كنيسة تعمل كحضانة، ومدرسة كما تطعم المجتمع وتساهم في دعمه.
باختصار:
انني بحاجة إلى مساعدتكم لإنشاء مطبخ يكون بمثابة وسيلة للدعم الذاتي المستمر ومصدر دخل دائم للكنيسة التي تعتمد حاليا على تبرعات المحسنين السخية والتي تنتظر دائما "التبرع المقبل". الخطة ليست التبرع بمبالغ صغيرة على مدار السنة بل الاستثمار لمرة واحدة في تأسيس شيء من شأنه أن يساعد الكنيسة في دعم نفسها في المستقبل. بدل أن تعطي أحداً سمكة، علمه كيف يصطاد السمك.
معلومات أساسية:
الحياة في لا كاربيو:
هي حياة ما يقارب 40.000 شخصاً يعيشون في الأحياء الفقيرة خارج عاصمة بلد من بلدان أمريكا الوسطى الذي ينتمي إلى العالم الثالث. بدأ السكان ببناء منازلهم على سطوح المنازل الأخرى بسبب اقتصار المساحة. إضافة إلى ذلك لا يتجرء السكان المحليين على الخروج من منازلهم في ساعات الليل لأن الشوارع في غاية الخطورة. أصبحت هذه المدينة ثاني أخطر منطقة في أمريكا الوسطى بعد المكسيك المشهور للأسف بعصاباته وعصابات المخدرات. لم تصل الكهرباء أو الغاز أو الماء الساخن إلى معظم المنازل وتجد العائلات صعوبة في تغدية، كسو ورعاية أطفالها. يحصل معظم الأطفال على وجبة كاملة واحدة كل 3 أيام، أما الثياب التي يرتدونها فقد استعملها أطفال آخرين 4-5 مرات قبلهم. إن النظافة شبه معدومة والأمراض جزء من الحياة اليومية ، تخدم "عيادة" واحدة المجتمع بأكمله دون أن تتمتع بتمويل كبير .
ما هو أهم من كل ذلك وما ينقص لا كاربيو فعلاً هو التعليم. لا يحظى سوى 1% من الأطقال الذين يأتون إلى الكنيسة بتعليم مناسب يقودهم الى الحصول على شهادات جامعية وفيما بعد إلى الحصول على وظيفة. مما يعني أن أحداً من الـ46 طفلاً الذين أراهم يومياً سوف يتلقى هذا التعليم، ولا أحداً من الأطفال الذين سيأتون إلى الكنيسة في العام المقبل سوف يتلقى هذا التعليم. طفلا واحداً فقط يحظى بذلك كل ثلاث سنوات.
الكنيسة:
في وسط كل هذا تعمل كنيسة ----. تتكون الكنيسة من مبنى واحد ومن ملعب صغير جداً في الخارج. يستعمل مكان الصلاة كمدرسة لتعليم اللغة الانكليزية، أما الملعب في الخارج فهو يستعمل كحضانة، وفيما يخص المطبخ فهو كان مكاناً يطعم المجتمع لكنه توقف عن ذلك بسبب نقص الأموال، واللوازم والمواد.
يهتم 3 أشخاص بـ46 طفلاً. تهتم فيفيانا بالتعليم أما تيريزا ودانييلا فهما مسؤولتان عن الحضانة. تلك النساء متطوعات ولا تتلقين أية أموال مقابل هذا العمل الرائع الذي تقمن به كل يوم طيلة سنوات عدة.
أما الأطفال فهم رائعين. لا يمتلكوا شيئاً وهم ليسوا بحاجة لشيء. يلعبون كل يوم بالألعاب المكسرّة والقديمة نفسها ولكنهم لا يهتمون لذلك.
انهم سعداء للغاية. تأكل الثقوب قمصانهم، لم يأكلوا وجبة كاملة ولم يستحموا منذ أيام. من الصعب جداً وصف ابساماتهم التي يرتدونها كل يوم. لكنني أعتقد أنه من المؤسف أنهم لم تتسنى لهم الفرصة لمعرفة أشياء أخرى، أشياء أفضل.
الحاجات:
الأرض داخل الكنيسة غير مبلّطة والجدران ليست مطلية. تتسرب الأمطار من السقف وتنقطع الكهرباء عدة مرات يومياً. لا يوجد فتحات للنوافذ في الجدران وليس هنالك أية وسيلة أخرى للتهوءة مثل المراوح وغيرها. لكن تلك الأمور غير مهمة الآن. ما تحتاج إليه لا كاربيو أكثر الحاحاً من ذلك بكثير. السكان في حاجة إلى لوازم مدرسية، إلى أقلام وأوراق، إلى كراس ليجلسوا عليها. سكان لا كاربيو في حاجة إلى العديد من الأمور.
الخطة:
لقد قدم العديد من الأفراد والمتطوعين تبرعات سخيّة للكنيسة على مرّ السنين. في حين أن هذه التبرعات كانت مهمة جداً لاستمرار هذا الهيكل إلا أنها لا تقدم حلولاً على المدى الطويل. لهذا السبب تنتظر الكنيسة في بعض الأحيان "التبرع المقبل" لكي تستطيع شراء المزيد من المواد واللوازم.
تهدف الخطة إلى انشاء شيء ما ضمن جدران الكنيسة يكون قادرا على توليد مدخول صغير يكون بمثابة دعم متواصل ومستمر لها، أي مساعدة الكنيسة في دعم نفسها.
بدل من تقديم تبرعات مالية صغيرة على مدار السنة، نطمح إلى جمع تبرع واحد سخي يكون بمثابة استثمار في الكنيسة، ويؤدي إلى بناء شيء يولد مدخولاً ثابتاً للكنيسة أسبوعياً أو شهرياً.
كيفية تحقيق ذلك:
أعلم أن الفكرة تبدو كبيرة وصعبة لكنني أعتقد أننا يمكننا تحقيقها.
يوجد في الكنيسة مطبخاً كان يقدم الطعام لأبناء المجتمع إلا أنه لم يعد يعمل الآن. إذا استطعنا ترميمه فقط بواسطة لوازم المطبخ الأساسية، والقليل من الرفوف، والمياه الجارية، والإضاءة والمواد الغذائية، سوف يعمل المطبخ من جديد وتستطيع الكنيسة عندها طهي وجبات طيّبة كل يوم أحد تبيعها بمبالغ صغيرة جداً لأفراد المجتمع بعد القداس. تم تجريبة هذه الخطة من قبل وتبين أنها فعالة لكنها توقفت في وقت لاحق لعدم وجود الأموال ولعدم الإهتمام بالمطبخ.
إن المبلغ الذي وضعته كهدف لهذه الصفحة أساسي لنتمكن من إعادة تشغيل المطبخ ولشراء اللوازم .

Pour ceux qui me connaissent et pour ceux qui ne me connaissent pas, je vous remercie de tout mon cœur pour avoir pris le temps de lire ce qui suit.
Je m’appelle Jonathan. J’ai contacte le mois passé une organisation humanitaire basée à San José – Costa Rica qui pourrait m’aider à trouver un projet communautaire là où je pourrais travailler comme volontaire pour les quelques mois à venir. J’ai pris l’avion sans savoir ce qui m’attendait et ne prenant avec moi qu’un sac ê dos. Dès mon arrivée on m’a présenté ce qui sera ma nouvelle maison pour les deux mois prochains : La Carpio. Je serais en train de travailler avec des enfants de 2 a 12 ans dans une église qui est à la fois une garderie/ une école, elle offre des repas à la communauté et travaille dans le champ du soutien communautaire. .
En bref:
J’ai besoin de votre aide pour construire une cuisine qui servira comme source permanente de revenu à l’église qui dépend aujourd’hui des dons de généreux bienfaiteurs et qui attend toujours « le prochain don ». Le but de ce projet n’est pas de faire de petites contributions durant toute l’année mais d’investir pour une seule fois dans la construction de cette cuisine et de créer un élément qui pourra s’auto-soutenir dans le futur. Apprenez-leur à pêcher au lieu de leur donner du poisson.
Contexte:
La vie a La Carpio :
C’est la vie d’à peu près 40 000 personnes qui vivent dans un bidonville hors de la capitale d’un pays de l’Amérique Centrale appartenant au tiers-monde. A cause du manque d’espace, les personnes ont dû construire leurs maisons l’une au dessus de l’autre. Les rues sont tellement dangereuses que les habitants n’osent pas sortir de leurs maisons avec la tombée de la nuit. Cette ville est devenue la seconde région la plus dangereuse en Amérique Centrale, suite au Mexique malheureusement célèbre pour ces gangs et cartels de drogue. La majorité des maisons n’ont pas d’électricité, ni de gaz, ni d’eau chaude et les familles ont du mal à nourrir, habiller et prendre soin de leurs enfants. En effet, la majorité des enfants ici n’ont droit qu’a un seul repas complet en moyenne tous les 3 jours et les habits qu’ils portent ont été probablement utilisés par 4-5 enfants avant eux. L’hygiène est presque inexistante et les maladies font partie de la vie quotidienne, avec une seule « clinique » extrêmement sous-financée au service de toute une communauté.
Ce qui est encore plus important à La Carpio c’est le manque d’éducation. Seulement 1% des enfants qui viennent à l’église reçoivent une bonne éducation qui leurs permettra d’aller à l’université et d’avoir une carrière professionnelle ensuite. Cela veut dire qu’aucun des 46 enfants que je vois chaque jour auront cette opportunité et cette éducation. Aucun des enfants qui viendront à cette église l’année prochaine ne recevra cette éducation non plus. Au fait, juste UN enfant aura cette opportunité chaque 3 ans.
L’église:
Au milieu de tout cela, vient l’église ----. L’église consiste d’un seul bâtiment avec une très petite cour. Le lieu de prière sert d’espace pour l’école d’anglais, la cour est une garderie et la cuisine servait des repas pour la communauté, mais elle ne fonctionne plus pour manque de fonds, fournitures et matériel.
Seules trois personnes prennent soin de 46 enfants. Viviana leurs enseigne l’anglais, quant à Theresa et Daniella elles sont en charge de la garderie. Ces trois personnes sont des volontaires qui ne reçoivent aucun sou en retour de leur excellent travail qu’elles font tous les jours et le font depuis des ANNEES.
Les enfants sont absolument incroyables. Ils n’ont rien et n’ont besoin de rien. Les jouets avec lesquels ils jouent chaque jour sont très anciens et cassés mais cela n’est d’aucune importance pour eux.
Ils sont TRES HEUREUX. Leurs chemises sont trouées et ils n’ont pas mangé un repas complet ni pris une douche pendant des jours. Il est vraiment impossible de décrire leurs visages souriants chaque jour qu’ils viennent à l’église. Je ne trouve pas les mots pour le décrire. Mais je pense que c’est vraiment triste qu’ils n’ont pas eu l’opportunité de connaitre autre chose, quelque chose de « meilleur ».
Les besoins:
Le sol à l’intérieur du bâtiment n’est pas couvert et les murs ne sont pas peints. Quand il pleut le plafond fuit et l’électricité se coupe plusieurs fois durant la journée. Dans le mur il n’y a pas d’ouvertures pour les fenêtres et il n’existe aucune autre mode de ventilation dans le bâtiment comme par exemple des ventilateurs. Tout cela n’a absolument AUCUNE IMPORTANCE. La Carpio a besoin de quelque chose qui est bien plus urgent. Les habitants ont besoin de la nourriture, des fournitures scolaires, ils ont besoin de crayons et de papiers, et de chaises pour s’assoir ! Il y a tellement de choses dont ils ont besoin.
Le plan:
Au fil des années, plusieurs personnes et volontaires généreux venant de tout le monde ont offert de nombreuses contributions à l’église. Bien que ces donations soient extrêmement nécessaires pour garder l’établissement fonctionnel, elles n’ont pas d’effet à long terme. L’église attend toujours le « prochain » don monétaire pour pouvoir acheter du matériel et des fournitures.
Le plan est de créer un élément dans l’église qui sera en mesure de générer un petit revenu qui servira comme un soutien constant et continu à l'église. En d’autre termes aider l’église à s’auto-soutenir.
Au lieu d’avoir de petits dons durant l’année, nous voudrons idéalement avoir un don généreux qui sera comme un investissement dans l’église, et qui générera ensuite à l’église un revenu hebdomadaire/mensuel.
Comment l’achever:
Je sais que l’idée semble être impossible mais je crois de tout mon cœur qu’on peut l’achever.
Il existe dans l’église une petite cuisine qui ne fonctionne pas mais qui offrait auparavant des repas à la communauté. Si la cuisine est rénovée avec juste les fournitures de cuisine de base, quelques étagères, de l’eau, de l’électricité et des approvisionnements alimentaires, l’église pourrait cuisiner de bon repas les dimanches et les vendre à un prix très réduit après chaque messe. Ce concept a été déjà essayé et fut un succès, toutefois il a été arrêté pour manque de fonds et surtout le manque d'entretien de la cuisine.
La somme d’argent que j'ai mis comme objectif pour cette page serait absolument fondamentale pour que la cuisine fonctionne à nouveau et pour acheter les approvisionnements alimentaires nécessaires pour cuisiner.
